ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    lowering question(s)

i want to be able to have my car really low (like a 2.5 - 3 inch drop all the way around)and i don't have enough money for coilovers so i have a few questions for u guys:

    1. what is the lowest u can go with just a spring/shock set-up

    2. will i have any clearance issues

    3. what springs/shocks do u recommend

any helpful answers would be greatly appreciated.

1)lowest you can go? depends on the set up you use. i know a few people up here have Skunk2 springs or H&R spring that are about 2.25 or 2.5" drop on their car.

2)clearance. it all depends on what size tires and rims you have.

3)springs and shocks? look at this thread: Suspension set ups

you can see the suspension set ups people have and they rate how much they like it. most of them will have a set up they will tryin the future.

Knoi, Dropzone, and KYBs seem to be popular tho.

And to add to Shadow1's #2 about clerance.. It also depends on what kind of roads/driveways/parking lot speed bumps, etc.. your going to have to deal with, and if you have a big lip or something like that. Later

        thanks for the quick response.

do answer your question i am riding on stock EX-R rims right now

anyway i found a set of sprint springs that lower it 3 1/4 in. in the front and 3 in. in the back. would this be too much of a drop (road clearance wise)?

it would drop your car nice. but like madspleen said. it all depends on the kind of roads your on on a daily basis. if your driving on smooth roads all day then 3in drop is cool. but if your going over speed bumps, pot holes, up steep driveways then a 2 1/2" drop would suit you better.

It really depends.. You know what the roads that you have to deal with are like. My driveway is on a bit of an incline and Math owns me so I parked my stock height CB on the slope of the driveway and did some measuring just with a tape measure to see how low I would be able to go before I had any clerance issues.. I figured I could go about 2.5" and still have right around .5" of clerance. But it is really a matter of how much clerance you are comfortable with. I know around here there are quite a few potholes and manholes that you have to miss with a lowered car unless you want to tear your lip off. Like I said before it really depends on what you are comfortable with and what the roads you use are like. Later

I went with the Tein S-tech springs. It was under $300 and about a safe 2.25 inch drop. It looks good too.

thanks for all the responses guys

sorry about all the questions but heres one more:

does anyone know of a drop that is around 2.75 all around because my driveway is steep and that is probably the lowest i could go before losing a lip or a downpipe.

Don't go too low. As soon as I got home with my new springs on, I pulled into my driveway and completely mauled my brand new painted R33 fiberglass bumper i also messe up the rear a couple days later pulling out of my driveway. As long as you don't have a chap ass body kit you should be cool.

my car is completely stock except for the deck and amp that came with it. i don't plan on putting a body kit on in the future anyway b/c i like my stock lip.

You will be fine with a 2.75 or less drop. I never liked bodykits and decided to buy a stock oem front and rear bumper with front lip which is extremely durable compared to fiberglass. My advice is to go slow up and down inclines.

FWIW.... There's tricks to driving a lowered vehicle too, like... take speedbumps and driveways at an angle(one wheel at a time). know when to "nail it" and hop over the obstacle.....yeah its ghetto, but come on... we're lowering hondas......lol...j/p its almost as silly as lowered trucks... hopefully as much fun too

I put Skunk2 on mine and love the lowered ride but I know I bottomed out hard coming out of the OReilly Auto Parts lot onto the main road just with the small drop off the curb. Of course, I was also going a little too fast but that was another story.
