ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

i think most people who install that, have a cone style air filter. you'll probably want to remove the air box/resonator and all that jazz just to install it to the left of the engine.

Not reallly worth it if your running a stock setup. The stock ignition is good enough. But most people that I have seen mount it toward the firewall if not the passenger side fender area.

ive relocated my battery to the trunk and put my msd box and coil where my battery used to be. i saw a good gain with mine, especially in the top end.

did you go with an MSD 6A system? I'm really interested in doing that. Glad to finally hear something from someone who actually has an MSD....

this is the shit i dont understand sure the battery has more looks under the bay but why put it to the back thinking its really gonna make much of a difference. Why even do this task??? what point is it to do this.

yes i used the 6a box with a blaster 2 coil. the reason i moved my battery was to have some place to put all of my fire dept siren and things. i didnt do it for any other reason than just to make space.

Why don't you use proper grammar and punctuation?

People put there batteries in the back for many reasons, just because you don't need to, doesn't mean others can't.

As far as the MSD, I'll quote myself from another thread

With the MSD digital 6 and Blaster SS coil I was able to keep a stock spark plug gap up to about 9 psi (.43-.45) then above that I had to drop it down to about .36-.39

This was on the zfr6a-11's, only one step colder than stock.

Most others on stock ignition, gap there plugs around .29

If you can maintain a larger gap, you will have a more complete burn.

This is of course with turbo applications. L8r

very well said by the way. i need to gap my plugs a lil bit wider with my all motor set up. im not getting a complete burn and its causing me to run a lil rich.

right now i have the MSD ignition box and the MSD cap...if i was u... i would go with the MSD 6AL ignition box because of the extra features of rev control and the two step launch control, etc... my boi has his MSD 6AL box installed in the glove box of his SI civic...looks great...i may go with that but it kills the space inside of the glove box....

maybe this is getting a little off of the orignal topic...but why would you go down in gap for higher boost?

The extra cylinder pressure of added boost will make it more difficult to light off the plugs. The spark plugs are always fighting to light, but on a stock vehicle you won't have any problems. Most people that boost 6-8psi with a stock ignition are forced to run about a .29 gap, much smaller than stock, due to the higher cylinder pressures. This isn't so great for performance, the more spark (To a point obviously) the better.

My previous example of running a stock gap (.39-.45) @ 8psi can not be done with a stock ignition, atleast not that I've ever seen.

There is alot of other things to consider when you start boosting, once you start going higher with the boost different plugs will be used as well, and at the same time messing around with the spark plug gap.

The ideal way to figure out the best gap is to slowly gap your plugs wider, eventually they will start to misfire, then back them down about -.05.
Most people with even just bolt-ons won't notice anything with this, but as far as boosted people, the gains will be more dramatic. Be warned though, there is a point that you can mess up your stock ignition system, whether it be the coil or wires, with going to big with the gap, you can create alot of resistance and the oem stuff will be fighting very hard to light off the mix, so don't go nuts with it.

Also, it's pretty well known that actual driving will put more load on the motor than a dyno run. Last time I dyno tuned we played with the spark plug gap until we had it running smooth and pulling hard. On the drive home I got into it a bit and in the top of fourth, with more load on the motor, the spark started to "blow out". I had to close up the gap to about .36, this was at about 10psi, with one step colder plugs (ZFR6a-11's). So next time your on te dyno, and have your plugs gapped out, don' be surprised if they don't work as well on the way home.

Any other questions, let me know, I can try and answer them. L8r
