ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    engine change, need help

im replacing the F22A1 in my '90 Accord LX with an F22A6 out of a '93 Accord EX because mine uses oil in a big way. im still doing research and have found enough info to tell me I dont have all the parts I need to make use of the A6 yet. so what im doing is putting the A1 intake and exhaust manifolds onto the A6 untill I can get the ECU, downpipe, and unless my LX has one I will need a vacuum resevoir as well.

anyway I dont know if the intake and exh gaskets are the same for an A1 and A6. if not which one do I order for?

please dont tell me I should have found an H22. its a daily driver/family car, all I cared about was finding a lowish milage engine I could just bolt in. wrecking yard told me to use the A1 intake and maybe exhaust but they wernt sure which gaskets

intake and exhaust on the head, yeah AFAIK they're the same

now the other gaskets on the exhaust and intake manifolds themselves are different because of the dual runners and the 421 exhaust.

Stop. Don't put the a1 IM back on, put the a6 on and hook the IAB's to an open vacuum nipple.

If you have to settle on the a1 exhaust manifold for now, well, so be it. But keep the a6 intake manifold.

^^^^ what he said if you took off the a6 youd basically just be making your a6 back to an a1 again

ok. and for the future I am looking for an ecu from an A6 powered car, does it matter if its from an auto or 5spd car?

There is a difference between the ecu's. I don't know if that difference is really significant.

Check the last 3 numbers in the ecu code

*****-pt6-XXX If theres a 5 there its an auto, IIRC

keep thinking of more stuff. my problem is I wont know what works till I take it out but I only have the weekend to take it out and have the new engine in so I can go to work for monday. just trying figure it out first

I got the A6 with the engine wiring harness from the EX intact. I also got the solonoid to activate the vacuum for the butterflies. is the plug for the solonoid part of the engine harness? and will the '93 EX harness plug right into my '90 LX or should I use the LX harness?

Well, I do believe that plug is present because it needs to go to the ecu

The a6 harness may have some extras on it though, perhaps abs, or airbag stuff, etc

It would be easier to have the solenoid plug on the harness though, so you don't have to run wires and do splicing and soldering and what not.

I actually own a 90 lx auto and a 93 ex auto, and my 93 has a lot more under the hood.

I would try using the a6 harness

I know what else I forgot. is it going to pass local aircare sniff test with the butterflies hooked up like that? being a '90 the aircare test for it here is just 2nd gear at a steady 40km/h on the dyno then an idle test.

hopefully its not raining tommorow after work. new(to me) engine is sitting under a tarp outside so I cant really go looking at the harness and stuff while its raining :o(

I suspect the butterflies will stay closed during such a test, if everything else is in top shape it should be no problem

he man it should pass the test . i do it all the time at work the iab's work on higher rpm's so it will do just fine at the lower speed , as for the idle test u'll pass wit flying colors ...

the problem with driving 45minutes each way to get to work and back is that you have lots of time to think of stuff. I was thinking on the way home and realized the A6 engine wiring harness is setup for the A6 distributer which does not have the coil in the distributer but I dont have the A6 distributer. I just have the coil in distrubuter one on my car. hrmmm. I think i'll order extra gaskets incase I decide to just put the A1 intake on and deal with swaping it in later when ive got more time and have learned more

I think you can convert between internal and external, they do it with h22 swaps, I'd have to search it out

When you do that timing belt, be sure to get a balance shaft seal retainer, for insurance

I actually just read something bout the retainer. I never thought about doing balance shaft seals though, I think i'll do those while im in there. my father-inlaw is going to shake his head. his oppinion on most things is something to the effect of "if it isn't broken dont fix it". he thinks there just out to gouge you when they say the t-belt should be done at a certain point. if he mentions that again while im changing the belts i'll ask if he will give me a writen gaurentee to pay for the rebuild if the t-belt snaps.

it would be funny to find out one or both of the motors have it done already though *L* was it ever a recall issue?

no, but on 5th gens it was

On ours it just takes longer to happen, but when it does, you might be fucked (pardon the language)

And you don't HAVE to change the seal to put the retainer on. If you think they're in good condition, no need to bother.

Of course when I ordered my t-belt change kit on ebay it included them so I figured wtf why not.
