ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    changing timing belt

i own a 1990 accord dx automatic. i have 97k on my baby. i hear i'm up for a timing belt change.

is changing the timing belt something that could be done by just about anyone?

becuase honestly speaking i don't know my way around my engine bay, and i would'nt know where to start...

but i am willing to do this myself becuase i hear it could cost me about $600 if i go to the stealership!!!!1

it will be very hard to do if you don't have any major experience with motors. it would be wise to take it to a shop if you're not too skilled, it wouldn't hurt to try though.

Yeah ur gonna need someone that has experience. And don't trust ur buddy that has changed brake pads or accesory belt's. If u don't get the timing right then u will be lacking power. Not only that though if the balance shaft's are off time ur motor will be very unbalanced. But if u live somewhere near Orlando FL I can do it for u. Or if u want Honda part's I get my employee discount..... About 30% off, Lemme know. Good luck.

i've got the same car lol. the previous owner never had the tbelt and water pump replaced and currently theres 120xxx miles on it.

i told my mother, i'm just going to try to do it myself following the advice of Haynes/Chiltons/this websites DIY guides. if i do it wrong and blow up the engine, oh well my bad and all that jazz. just grab another engine and try it again LOL. i mean i got all OEM parts mad cheap anyways so why not save a little more money by doing it myself slowly and carefully?

theres a couple of oil leaks i wanted to take care of sparkplug tubes seals/VC/ dizzy o-ring so i might as well do everything all at once since i have all the tools out.

i've got some experience on working with cars because my father was a mechanic back in the day and he would bring home cars from friends that needed work. i've got a few engine swaps, clutchs, lots of brakes and oil changes, tune ups well you know the basic stuff. I'll admit this is the first time working on a CB7 though.

I am about to perform this smae proceedure on my baby. Never did it before, but I can do anything I put my mind to. I am at like 92, xxx miles, and it's time, but there is no way I'm spending my JDM headlight and/or Xenon light money on getting someone else to put a timing belt on my car. No way no how.

I did the belts on the engine I was putting in. after dealing with the close tollerance to the inner fender trying to get the engine/tranny out and back in I cant imagine doing it in the car. not fun.

anyway dont forget the balance shaft seal retainer
