ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Pls Help! Tranny Or Axel Gave Out!

well i really don't know what gave out on me...first of all...my friend tried to burn out on first gear..then it burned out a lil bit...then i strated hearing some griding noise...so i freaked out..i checked every gear and it did that....
so i checked my passenger side...what i notice is that...my drive axel isn't spining...only the cup..the one that goes to the tranny...where the inner cb boot is at...that's the only thing that's spinning when i left it in gear.......so im thinking that my drive axel gave out on me..in the other hand...im also thinking it might be my tranny...so what u guys think...drive axels or tranny? and how can u tell if ur tranny gave out on you....well my car is a 90 ex sedan manual trans...but if it is my drive axels....would any accord or prelude 92-96 drive axel would fit? and does it have to be standard? some one pls help me here!...thanx...

Well, when i did my clutch-job i had kinda the same prob. when i went to go on a hard take off my axel popped out of the tranny cuz the c clips werent on them. That made a grinding noise, but it would only grind in gear. just a thought, hope it helps.

There to big, and I think the accord ones are beefier anyway.

For passenger side Im almost positive you dont have a choice.

if your planning on going to a junk yard to get some i wouldnt, you can get them off summitracing.com for about $50 -$70

dont get the automatic ones, you dont have an auto
and you want them w/abs (unless im mistaken and the ex's didnt get abs untill later)

k...thanks for the info everyone..ohh yeah and for summit racing..i can't seem to find the drive axel's for my car....but....can i still rebuild my axel...
cause the only thing that spins is the cup that connects to the tranny....

well if the cup spins that means u broke the joint in the axle. you could proably get one at advance auto for $60. rebuild kits won't work for u cuz u need a whole axle.

i had a cv pop put on me once the tranny spins and speedo moves but nothing all i had to do was shove the cv cup back in the tranny.

but one thing u can try to do to rule out ur tranny is jack up the car and leave it in gear and using ur hands manualy turn that cup to see if it turns. (if ur strong enough, the other tire should turn backwards) or u can turn the tire and see if the other tire turn too..

but it looks like ur getting a new cv joint.

                    hope that helps

i wouldnt get the auto ones, if it was ok to use in your manual then they would just sell universal ones and not worry about specifing the tranny type.

X3... Auto tranny is wider than a manual, so the axle on the drivers side is slightly shorter and since we have an intermediate shaft our driver side axle is slightly shorter.

Correct me if im wrong, i have never worked on an auto 4th gen accord. Every other auto car i have worked on, including accords, have been that way compared to standard.

EDIT: i did some research to see if i could get evidence to support my statement and this is what i came up with from honda:

                            90 Ex: AUTO: R: 97725
                            L: 97729

                            MANUAL: R&L: 97725

                            93 Ex: AUTO: R: 97726 (97727)
                            L: 97732

                            MANUAL: R: 97726 (97727)
                            L: 97735 (97737)

In conclusion i would say get the axle for your specific car. I realize why my left axle lasted forever from honda and 4 autozone axles where bad on install.

I finally got the people at autozone to work with me and get the right axle and I found one at the store that had the all black with a white stipe (what my factory original looked like). Naturally it worked and has drove great since i installed it.
