ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Cap/Rotor Question

So I'm changeing my cap/rotor right now and I've got a couple questions.

    1. The right side of my dizy, left of the valve cover, there is a darker area than the rest of the engine, could that mean there is a leak? What would be leaking? What would need to be fixed?

    2. When I undid the wires from the cap, the ends of them where they connect to the cap have like a greasy greenish sludge on them.. is that normal?

    3. Can the cap go on facing any direction or does it have to line up with something?

    4. On the metal piece that the cap slides onto there is a brownish powder on it, kinda greasy, is that supposed to be there or is it buildup of some sort that should be wiped off?

    Thanks!

can you take a picture of the gunk build up? it could be carbon...

theres an o-ring behind the dizzy housing that tends to go bad and leak oil down onto your transmission.

Yea I can take one, do you know if there is a special way the rotor goes on or does it not matter? I just want to finish this since it's not hooked up right now.

The cap lines up one way. Not sure what that grease is, could be some type of "antiseizie" but I doubt it. Try cleaning your engine, if it comes back you have a problem. You shouldn't be able to screw of the rotor install either.

            1. There is an oil leak, Most likely from the valve cover gasket. Most of the engines have that problem....Its nothing serious if there is dry oil there. If the oil is fresh then change the gasket.

            2. There should be di-electric grease in the ends of the plug wires, the grease probably mixed with the corroded copper and there you have the green color grease.

            3. Cap and Rotor can only go on in one way.

            4. Wipe off all residue and reinstall the pieces, its probably from the old rotor that you have the dust.

Thanks, I'll go finish it now. I just replaced the valve cover gasket so maybe the leak is old, i'll see if it's dry.

I didn't even realized the rotor went on one way, I thought the whole piece was round, I'm a retard.

The residue around the distributor was a black powder so I'm assuming it was an old leak, I'll run the car tomorrow and see if anything comes out.

Is di-electric grease something I should put on there if I wiped the old stuff off? I didn't wipe all of it off but some came off.

                Thanks everyone!

I used that stuff once on my first car. I haven't used it since and I have no problems. But I change my plugs and wires than most people anyway.
