ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Mechanic Quote

Hey guys, it seems that my bearing is going out cuz everytime i turn harshly or go on bumps, something near the axle squeaks or moans. Turns out its the bearing. I asked a mechanic how much it would cost to fix. He told me 180$ for one. I feel like he's ripping me off realllllll baddddd cuz i know bearings are about 50$ but i'm not sure how tough the maintenance can be. What do you guys think? 180$ for one is an OD ripoff?

labor kills my friend. he is not charging you a lot.
to change the rotors will cost about $400 here in philly. which is the same job as doing the wheel bearings

Well, considering they have power tools and various others, changing a bearing shouldn't take that long. Ask him how many hours of labor he's charging you for. I'd get the part myself and ask him to install it to get the cheapest price.

      ...adjust accordingly

mechanics like to charge like 40-50/hour.

it's probably gona take 3 hours, max to change out the bearing.

I'd say 180 is a decent price if it includes the bearing. I'd charge less, and I use hand tools.

go to the dealership and ask for a quote. you will crap ur pants, especially when dealer labor is near 100 an hour. i believe our honda dealership is @ 97 and hour.

why not call a few different places and see what u come up wth. then go from there. dont always trust the first number you hear.

Buy the parts FIRST. Then ask for a labor only quote. Honestly, just buy a accord repair manual with good pictures. Its like legos, aslong as you follow every direction it will turn out like its suposed to. Plus any tools you buy for the job you get to keep =]

Shop rates are insain, find a friend whos a mechanic and sell him your soul for work. Some friends might even settle for a case of beer.
I cant Slam further. The ground refuses to get any lower.

Yes I agree...DIY...it will help you alot in the long run...but if you just don't have the time...$180 is really a good price...I am a Dealership Technician (Nissan) and our honda dealership charges like $95/hr and the book rate on one wheel bearing is 2 hours (3.6 for both)...thats $190 for one and $342 for both just in labor...I would recommend doing both sides and also call a few more places...and as previously stated buy your parts first....mark up is a killer....good luck

take it man, as a mechanic (diesel) but i do work on some cars mainly mine but i can honestly say that is a great price no its not a hard job to do but as a mechanic there is a lot of responsiblility doing a job like that there is a lot that could go wrong if he would try to take a short cut to make the price cheaper

yea that does sound pretty reasonable...

most of the shops around here charge crazy amounts for little stuff.
