ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Maintenance Help

I own a 1990 Accord LX Automatic w/ 177k miles on it. What maintenance needs to be done assuming that you don't know what maintenance were done on the car beforehand. I'm thinking about doing a motor oil change, transmission fluid flushed replaced with Honda ATF fluid, replacing spark plugs, replacing distrubtor cap, replacing fuel pump?, replacing air filter, replacing everything that has to do with the timing belt... which would be? Any input would help. TIA!!

thanks! pretty much sums everything up that i could think of. so i just need to adjust the drive belt, not replace it? i'm just comparing maintenance to my other cars where i need to get the timing belt, timing chain, etc replaced along with the components it's attached too. TIA!!

You hafta inspect all belts for cracks and wears. If there are signs of wear and cracks , replace them. If not , just adjust them.

actually wanted/ thought about going to the meet... diablo one? but i don't think my car can make it that far considering the oil leak and tranny problems. well the tranny isn't much of a problem. it would just grind from dead stop to starting and would only have a delay of shifting if i drive the car hard. if i just do regular driving, shifting is okay. hmm, so sometime this week, i'm going to get a distrubutor cap/rotor replacement along with fixing the o-ring if that's the problem with the leak, replace spark plugs and wires, replace air filter, flush tranny fluid to be replaced by honda atf fluid, tighten drive belts then i should be good? oh yeah, need to either replace or fix a part of my a/c unit 'cause i don't know if i have a leak or the a/c compressor is out. btw, what does IACV stand for?

You should bring extra quarts of oil and ATF just in case you wanna go. how bad is your leak? If its dripping like water then don't go. IACV means , Intake Air Control Valve. I would duggest that you change your A/T fluid and see what happens.

okay. so i have that extra bottle of atf fluid. can i just pour the whole thing in there? or do i have to drain the previous fluid? i just want the car somewhat driveable before i do the whole maintenance thing at the shop. the leak isn't that bad where you can see it dripping at the bottom. but the whole tranny side is sludgy looking... black gunk... but when i touched the bottom of the distributor cap, it was wet from the oil.

For the Tranny fluid , you have to check first if it's full or not. If the fluid is brownish or black , than you definitely need to drain the bad fluid and put on a fresh batch. If it's reddish then you're ok. The distributor , you have to change the o-ring before it floods other components.

thanks! makes sense... anyway, i'm not home and the car isn't with me. reason for these questions that i could check upon myself. but when i take off the tranny dipstick, is there a gauge showing that i have too little or too much fluid like the in motor oil's dipstick?

yes there is. There are two lines , in between them is like a criss-cross pattern. That's the level indicator. If it's in between those lines of course you have to add some cherry juice (ATF) in it

ahahah. okay. how much does a bottle cost? so the car was handed down to me recently. remembered finding an atf bottle in the trunk along with the long funnel. so i'll probably check it later today. but i should just wait until i finish the whole maintenance instead of wasting a good bottle, shouldn't i?
