would swapping in an a6 ecu give my a1 any performance upgrade whatsoever?

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

No. A6 manifold or h23a1 manifold works wonders. Its been discussed on this forum quite a bit. An ECU swap aint gonna do anything.

The A6 ECU has a more aggressive fuel map, but without the intake manifold and camshaft, you won't see the full benefit. Get the intake manifold at least, and it'll help. You WILL see more of a gain with the A6 manifold if you're running the A6 ECU. I don't believe you can operate the IABs on the manifold with the A1 ECU
For reference, the A6 ECU is a PT6, and the A1/A4 ECU is a PT3. Be sure to check the ECU's barcode label for the number. Be sure it's a PT6 before you spend money! (remember, only 92-93 EX and SE models have the PT6, as well as the 91 SE. 90-91 EX models have the PT3.)

I have the a4 header, a6 intake mani and the pt6 ecu to control the iab's. The ecu also has no speed limiter but i noticed it dumps way to much fuel, to the point i smell gas in the oil. I've reverted back to the pt3 ecu a few months ago and no more fuel in my oil!! I only noticed a difference in top end with the pt6. Maybe adding the a6 head or cam may help it burn my excess fuel. Who know's.

You need to do a compression/leak down test if your gettin fuel in the oil.Originally posted by Gettin_faster91I have the a4 header, a6 intake mani and the pt6 ecu to control the iab's. You may be right. But im kinda working on blowing the motor anyhow to make me go ahead and get a swap. But really the pt6 i got from maple a long time ago really fattens it up. But after going back to the pt3 its all good. Ive been putting off a swap because i just moved and buying shit for my new place. But my next pay check has 30 hours of over time so if i can keep from spending it on more crap i may put it into the car. Something like a f22b/ h23 cams. Maybe mill the head with a 50shot? Should keep me happy for a while.

Swap before you blow the motor... and sell the motor.
The PT6 most likely does dump more fuel. However, having any sort of airflow mods (intake and exhaust) can also cause a rich condition. I noticed that many of my friends complain of poor MPG after adding such mods. My H22 gained 5-6mpg after MRX did a quick street tune for me.

That is totally confusing.Originally posted by Cb7GHOSTA6 Intake mani. has the same Throttle body as the A1. And the A4 exhaust mani. is different from the A6. so go with the A4 out of all of them.
The A1 and A6 have cast exhaust manifolds. The A4 is the only one of the 3 USDM CB motors that had a tubular header (not sure why the A6 didn't get it... I'm sure there's a reason... more low end, maybe?)
A6 intake mani
A6 camshaft
A6 ECU
A4 header
The rest is common to all of them.
One way to upgrade the A6 intake manifold even further is to slap on an H22 or H23 intake plenum and throttle body. They bolt right on (the entire H23 intake manifold bolts on, actually) It produces a nice bit of power, considering it's using OEM parts.
