ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

I used to use QuikTrip, and i my car was always having probs. When i went to AZ, all they had were Shell's and Chevron's. So i used chevron. Didnt have nay probs. Now that im back in MO, ive been using Shell. If it ever gets cheap enough, illtry to put a full tank of 91 in, but for the most part its 87.

did you think of using a product like stp fuel system cleaner or octane booster?

I don't understand my you wouldn't fill with premium. I mean if it is 30 cents more per gallon, and you dank is DRY as a bone it is only 5 dollars more, spend the extra 5 bucks sometime, and see if your gas mileage gets any better.

I know that deevergoat doesn't believe me, I mean i didn't believe my friend Randi, and I used to make fun of her....

Plain and simple truth is, I get 3mpg more on premium than i do on regular. I religiously reset the tripmeter, allways have! and if deevergoat will come up with a way that i can scientifically prove that, I will do what it takes... LOL

the point is that, not does premium get me better gas mileage, but it is BETTER for my car, the injectors stay cleaner, less carbon buildup.... NO chance for detonation.

the benefits are worth 5 bucks per tank extra for me. I don't know about you guys.

I'm off to the gas station to fill with premium... have a good one!

i fill my cl and lexus w/ the highest grade only and the accord w/ midgrade only. i get better acceleration when i put in higher grade gas than the regular. dont kno exactly if it does give me more mileage though. i spend about 40 ti fill the lex and the ac, and the accord around $35-36.

to me my empty tank is when its a 1/4 tank of gas left.

hey dude, heres the full story, i study chemistry as part of my natural resources management at adelaide university, and this is what i was told in lecture, and i have no reason to doubt it. Basically, the higher the octane, the lower the engine pinging/knocking. Higher octane fuels were better for cars the use a carby, because a carby obviously cant regulate the oxygen/fuel mixture as effiently; EFI systems are much better at doing this, and therefore are fine to run on 91 octane (That is the lowest grade of fuel we have in Australia). Basically carbies could result in too much fuel being mixed with too little air and this resulted in unburnt hydrocarbons etc. Some of the excess left over would be ignited by the engine cylinder/s, and therefore make a knocking/pinging noise. Higher octane fuels are slower at burning, and have a higher relative ignition temperature required to break the C-H bonds and therefore release energy, so higher octanes wouldnt ping/knock as much. Ok, so, this aside, there is still unburnt fuel, and more important than the octane rating, although this can minimise engine wear because it generally is of a higher quality, the quality of the fuel and the amount of 'crap' in it is more important for engine wear. Because of the inaccuracies in EFI and fuel filters etc, this is not a 100% thing where 100% of the higher octane fuel is burnt. In summary, higher octane costs more because it is (generally) more highly refined and has more energy per mL, and because of this you get better mileage, but this is generally cancelled out by the increase in cost per octane rating. Becuase of the higher energy you get more km/L. Higher octane fuels are more effecient in the way that they pollute the environment less (I wont get into hydrocarbon chem here) also. So, higher octane fuels are better for your car, the environment and mileage, regardless of the manufacturers standards, so if you think thats worth the extra costs, then fill up with 98, i do.

NB: i havent taken into account turbo or VTEC engines.

                      cheers

that stuff works but it is not meant to be induced into the entire fuel system. fuealy injector cleaner is meant to be run for a short period of time only to clean the injectors.

cars are meant to run off of gasoline not gas and injector cleaner.

octane booster i have no freaking idea.

but i do know octane rating is aquired by refining oil and getting more impurities out of the gas. im skeptical because how can you increase octane when you are adding something when octane is the absence of impurities.

just for the record i have used fuel system cleaner and booster in the past.
