ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Help wanted , newbie question

Hello I hope someone here could help me/us and offer some advise , My son and I are working on a 90 accord with a stock 2.2 5sp . I am and mechanically inclined but my experience is more in the muscle car field but Im trying to do the father/son thing and help him with his car... anyway the engine is bad and we bought another 2.2 replacement. My question is when pulling the old engine do you remove it out the top or out the bottom, we dont have a lift to drop out the bottom but could lift the car high enough if nessacary. Also is it best to remove the old engine with the tranny as one unit ? and if also assume the axles need to come out. I couldnt find a thread on removal but if there is one could someone post a link. I do plan on picking up a manual but havent got one yet. Any help /input will we appreciated.

    thanks
    father/son

it can be done ethier way but a lift and dropping the whole subframe with the motor is much faster and easier in my opinon

Please, Leave me some feeedback on my ride ^CLICK ^CLICK ^CLICK

As mentioned, it can be taken out both ways, I find it easier to take it out from the top but some like to take it out from the bottom. And its 10x easier to take it out with the transmission as a whole than split them up in the engine bay.

Did you get the new engine from a 90-93 Accord? The later model 2.2L engines aren't direct swaps. Easy, but some stuff needs to be done. Too bad you didn't get the Prelude motor... 200hp in these little cars is pretty fun!

If you're removing the motor from the top you have to remove the axles from the tranny/halfshaft side but not from the knuckle side.

I thank eveyone thathas responded to my question. Everything so far has beed going good, old engine out , moving acces. over to new engine but I noticed that the wiring harness may be different ,the old engine was a manual tran and the new one was a automatic. There was a brace on the old engine that mounted to the bottom of the block and then to the manual tran, the new engine does not have these holes drilled or tapped, also some of the plugin connectors that go from the engine to the car itself dont look like they are the same, and the new engine has an external mounted coil where apparently the old one does not. Do I need to switch out the complete wiring harness and possibily the distributor too.

                    TIA
                    Jeff

You need to use the harness that came with the car. Swap it out onto the new engine.

To make your life easy, yes, switch out the distributors.

The plugs should all be the same. The only thing I can think of is maybe the EGR plug, but I doubt it.

                        i propose

i did it from the top and was so much easier, from the bottom you might need a lift, well get to it, you get to know your car better when you pull the motor out lol. memories

I am currently doing the same thing with my accord. I am swaping my old motor out for a "newer" one. and i am taking it out from the top.

Well everything worked out great , old engine out and new one in, the girl fired up on the first try!!!!!

Now for the next question, can anyone tell me wich way the 3 bearings go on the end of the axle, dummy me didnt take notice when I removed them, logic tells me that the lip side of the bearing goes down towards the axle

                            TIA again
