ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Octane Booster issues?

Call me a noob, but will octane booster put holes in my pistons or anything I dont want?
I bought this Maximun 104 Octane booster and poured the whole thing in. After pouring it all in I read the bottle and it stated that it treats 25 gallons lol. I did have about a full tank when I did it.
I noticed some performance gains but the coolest part has been the 400rpm smoooooooooth idle.
By performance I mean, it burns out without powerbraking and crap, just off the line. Then second gear gives the nice chirp that I never get. My tank was full of premium before I added. I suspect (doing math) that Im running 97-100 octane.
    Should I be worried?
I dont want my engine to die at 120,000 lol

you dont need any of that octane boost horseshit unless you want to give donations to auto stores... Fuel system cleaner or seafoam will be more effective.

you can use that stuff and it wont really do much if any. You should use it if your car knocks or you go to a cheapoo gas station. They wont put holes in your piston or anything.

Well thats a relief. I talked to a guy and he said he put 6 bottles in his car and nothing happened.
But I know higher octane does do things. For one the engine outputs more. I can go 410 miles on a tank of premium, compared to 350 or so on regular. Thats a fact. The EPA of 30 mpg that these Accords get is rated useing 89 octane. So Im thinking, that if I got 92 octane (to say the least) I should be getting like 34-35 mpg on the highway.
By the way this bottle cost me $11 lol
It was supposed to clean my injectors and lube the fuel system too....

Just to correct this, I put 120 octane Avgas in a Ford Festiva. All engines benefit from an increase in octane big or small. The festiva ran for a while putting out Id say almost double the horsepower, couldnt keep the tires quiet.. Compression ratio of the Festiva is the low 9's
It eventually threw a rod, it had like 300,000 miles and was ready for the junkyard.
Thats why I asked this question, I didnt want my good car to go "pop"

Look at the fine print. I believe that stuff raises the octane rating by about .01 point... so 87 octane will turn into 87.01.

no offence dude but you are highly misinformed about what octane does, go read up on it. octane only matters up to a certain point, and with an 8.8 ratio on these engines anything higher then 86 octane won't do anything and if you go to high it won't ignite properly. you could put 150 octane in your car and your HP won't even go up by 1.

^^lol 150 octane I think you would be losing more hp than gaining.

yeah I know it was just an example, anything over 91 would be a complete waste for the most part

I wonder why everything on paper says one thing, but some people still claim the opposite?
I suppose a placebo effect. I've heard theories that perhaps a dirty fuel system was being cleaned, or they have a carrier fluid (kerosene/light oil?) providing some better piston ring/valve sealing.

I wouldn't mind running a couple tanks of 93 and see if I can measure a change in MPG, or notice any other changes at all, but I'm not sure if they'd be enough for me to tell.

Although, I say whatever works for them. Slim chance it'll cause any harm.
