ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    All the pretty ECU's

*EDIT* I found the part numbers for pt6 ecu's...scroll down to find *endEDIT*

In my searching for the plenum swap...I've seen quit a few ECU numbers being thrown out...so...what are the different ecu's for the engines we discuss on this site?

I gather that the pt6 is out of the 91-93 accord ex (f22a6)? I read a post also saying the p06 and p28 are for auto trannies...???

SO what are the ecu's from the accords, and since there are a lot of h22 swaps...the preluds also?

Here are the numbers I've seen in my searches so far...
    p28
    pt3
    pt6
    p06
    p12

And another question...as far as chipped ecu versus stand alone versus piggy back. Cost effectiveness and hp/tq gain effectiveness...
how much power gain could you expect from a chipped ecu and about how much should it cost? Which ecu is best for...well...say stock components application or slight mod applications (f22a6 or h22 swap...etc...ram/cold air, exhaust)

I know this kinda seems like a too general and maybe unanswerable question...so here's a what if...f22a1 from a 93, with f22a6 runners, h23 plenum swaps, header upgrade, more free flowing exhaust upgrade, more free flowing intake upgrade (say ram air or cold air). And for shits and giggles...maybe a slight cam mod. Cheapest best gains...what could you expect from the different options?

Not talking boost or nitrous applications here...I would only go full on stand alone systems for peak performance with that...mostly talking about minor mods and/or stock components.
How much better (if) is a piggy back and cost? Of course the stand alone systems are the best...but...those are usually around 2k plus right...and prolly only best for...boost and nitrous.

    p28 - 1992-1995 Civic EX/Si
    pt3 - 1990-1993 Accord DX/LX (F22A1, F22A4)
    pt6 - 1992-1993 Accord EX/SE (1991 SE also - F22A6)
p06 - 1992-1995 Civic DX/LX (not sure about the other models)
    p12 - 1992-1995 Prelude S (F22A1, more aggressive tune than the pt3)
    p13 - Prelude VTEC (H22)
p39? - Prelude Si (H23) i think that one is right... not positive.

A chipped ECU is absolutely nothing like an intake or header you can just bolt on. You can't determine power gains without factoring in other things. The more heavily modified your car is, the more you'll benefit from a tuned ECU.

Basically, when you "chip" an ECU, you modify it so you can install your own chip with a custom fuel map. This map must be created using feedback from the engine, using tools such as a wideband oxygen sensor, exhaust gas temp sensor, and other various things (my tune was done with the wideband only). The best way to do it is on a dyno. Mine was done on the street. It's not perfect, but I'm happy with it.

A chipped ECU, for a street car, is honestly just as powerful as any standalone. Just a little more complicated. The standalones have more features, but most of them won't be needed on a street car anyway.

As for cost... you can get a P06 for $50-$75. A chipping kit is about $20 if you do it yourself. You can buy a pre-modified ECU from a few of the members here for a reasonable price ($150 maybe?). There's a shop near me that will tune a car using a chipped ECU for $500. On the dyno. No matter how long. That's actually really good.

      Awesome...now I know the ecu's I feel smarter

Yeah I was thinking that...cause if your injectors, fuel pump, etc etc are all still stock...then the stock ecu can handle...the rechip or after market ecu is really only for doing things beyond the capabilities of the stock ecu...thanks!

Exactly. When people build the "DSM turbo kit" (many parts from the older Eclipse/Talon/Laser turbo cars can be used on our cars with minimal modification), they use the 450cc injectors found in those cars. The stock ECU, obviously, can't properly fuel for boost, and it doesn't know how to control the larger injectors. The P06 is a very common ECU for making it work.

It's great to know that with a little bargain hunting, a bit of studying, and a little patience, you can double your horsepower for about $700

Check out the ECU tuning forum here for more info:
        http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=111

You might also want to read up on www.pgmfi.org if you want to get into tuning yourself. It's pretty complicated at first, but it starts to make sense as you go. I'm just learning myself, actually! (I only have half the tools necessary to really do it right, so I'm in no rush!)

The p12 is designed for the f22a1 both intake and exhaust...

I'm basically gonna end up having the f22a6...I have the intake manifold, cam, and soon I'll have a better header and even better intake plenum (via H23), I already have better exhaust than stock too. So the ecu designed for the f22a6 would be best I believe.

I would agree about the F22A6 (PT6) being the best ECU for your application.

                      Sorry for the hijack!

90-JDMCB7, I'll stop our side-conversation here... but I'll answer your questions. Crome is the best program to use for tuning these days, since I believe Uberdata is no longer being updated. The program is free to download.
You'll need Crome, a laptop, the proper datalogging cables, a wideband oxygen sensor (egt sensor would also be useful, but not absolutely necessary... the more feedback the better), a chipping kit (or someone to chip it for you), and a chip burner. In addition, you'll need to learn how to properly tune the ECU, or risk blowing up your engine! With MRX's permission, I can send you the map he made for me. It's not perfect (street tune, only a couple hours, wideband o2 only), but it runs my motor well. I get 30mpg on average, with some spirited driving. Haven't dyno'd it to see if there was a power increase, but I would think there would be. Leaning out the mixture normally will increase power. I can't say for sure that my map would work well for you, and I would urge you to be very careful when testing it to be sure... but it's a fairly safe tune. It was done more to even out the A/F ratio, rather than to try to pull maximum power from the engine (can't really do that without a dyno anyway)

eh no problem...I can use that info any way...nice little bonus

I just did a check on the parts...

For the manual tranny the part number is
                        37820-PT6-A12

                        The auto tranny is this,
                        37820-PT6-A53

So if you're on ebay (shudders) you can use those to make sure you get it right...someone was selling a pt6 for $250 on ebay...from a 90 ex...I asked them if they hit the zero button on accident...no reply yet ;D

the a.l.b. unit is this for both
                        39790-SM4-A11

uh...btw...is that anti-lock brake unit? It's twice as expensive brand new.

I used this site to look up the part numbers, got it from another forum.
http://www.slhondaparts.com/ It goes down to 92 accords...no earlier

I dont know about that Deev. EcTune is being constantly updated and is being used a lot more know, it's just not as popular (yet) as Crome. I've heard that Crome has a lot of glitches in it's programming

so what all do you need to use it? Does it just plug into your ecu? Not too familiar with aftermarket tunable ecu's...how does that go? Just plug any program (via specific cable) to your new ecu and tune away?
