ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

what does it mean to "pull" abs codes

ok, so my abs light went on about 2 mos ago and it has not turned off..... i dont think the abs function of the breaks are working...since a few short quick stops didnt cause the breaks to pump under my foot.... regular breaks work fine and were actually replaced some 3,000 miles ago and have been fine except for this abs light issue, just some 400mi ago...

however, if it is very humid out, the abs light stays off and the abs is so sensitive that even in regular driving, when i hit the break, the abs immediately kicks in.... i also hear a strange clicking sound coming from what seems to be the glove compartment, just before the abs kicks in....

i've read quite a few posts in the forums regarding pulling the codes, but i'm not sure what that means..... (by the way, both brake and abs fluids are fine...and my "expert" mechanic could not figure out what the problem was and suggested i go to a honda dealership to have them check it out...)

so, i have the pdf which shows what the codes actually mean, but question is....

    1) where are the fuses/wires to perform this test?
    2) which fuses/wires do i test?
    3) what does it mean to short the wire(?) with a paperclip?
    4) where does the code, flash, information appear?

sorry for the flurry of questions, but i can't seem to figure this out and really dont want to go honda shop just yet (*chi-ching*) for something that i can possibly diagnose myself...

    thank you much....

ehh these are normal questions you will ask since you dont know much about scanning and electronics in cars.

when they mean pulling codes, they mean finding what codes its putting out.

on the passenger side kick panel, underneath the glove box to your right is a tan/gray/red panel. take it off. you will see a wire with a plug and nothing connected to it. thats now you check codes.

that takes care of question one.

      thats the wire you test.

      question 2 awnsered.

take a piece of wire and on the plug and stick in through one side and stick it through the other side as well. thats called jumpering a wire.

      question 3 answered

your check engine light will flash when the wire is jumpered and you turn your key to acc position.

      qestion 4 answered

now you will jot down how many times it blinks. go to the pdf and find out what code is it.

most likely your problem will be dealing with abs (automotive braking systems) is costs around $1000 to repair it and you can only take it to the dealer because it requires special tools to repair it. if i were you, id just take it out, you dont need it.

      good luck.

I don't mean to be a dick or anything. the way you described is to pull codes off the ecu, that won't pull the codes for the abs (anti-lock brake system not automotive braking systems). i don't know about how to pull the codes for the abs either, every thread i read says to take it to the dealer or pull it out. the abs light is on in my wifes car, i haven't tried anything yet but when i pull codes from the ecu it dosen't have a code for the abs. there is a thread in the diy section describing what all is needed to replace the components for the abs, so get ready to fork out for the dealer or get ready to do a bit of pulling and bleeding.

I don't mean to be a dick or anything, but that IS how you pull the ABS codes. Jump the same connector you would for pulling ECU CEL's. Turn the ignition to position 2 and the ABS light will blink out the code.

If you get the code I can tell you what it means.

Mine died a couple months ago and I pulled the code, it was a code 1.

Took it to my mech. he said the abs pump needed to be replaced. It's about 1100 plus install etc, maybe 1500.

I wanted a second opinion so I went to Honda, waited for about 5 hours, and they said the same thing, and the same amount of money to fix it.

on the stairs, she grabs my arm, says whats up,
where you been, is something wrong?
i try to just smile, and say everything’s fine.

thanks both for the info.... will try it today.... if it comes up as a wheel sensor, a buddy of mine said that is not expensive to get and the mechanic can probably install it for a few bucks....

guess follow up question....if it is something more serious....(aka $1,000 to fix, which i'm not going to do on such an old car)... how do i eliminate the abs alltogether? is there a fuse you disconnect? some cable or wiring under the hood?

like i said, breaks work perfect, except for this sensitivity issue when it is very humid out...

            thanks...

because your car probably has a number of codes. you need to reset the ecu.

all its pulling is the code 12, and i have reset the ecu several times. at first the car had codes for egr and o2. replaced o2 and have a new egr not installed yet. i reset the ecu when i first got the car, checked codes, got the same 2, put in new o2, reset ecu, checked codes, then just got egr, was going to install new egr and reset and get codes again.

I never once saw the abs light flash, do you think it could be a fuse? i mean the fuse for the abs, also is there a way to reset the abs computer. thanks for keying in, i have been searching for info on the abs before this thread and never came up with squat.

                        This mostly applies,

                        http://media.honda.co.uk/car/owner/m.../400/13-48.pdf

look on the right under, "the light comes on, but there is no code given"

might just be a fuse, might have to replace the control unit, which is like the ABS ECU.

Isn't the "abs ecu" like 1000 dollars?

I wouldn't doubt it. Nearly all the ABS components are expensive and not easy to work on.

                            Here's the price from majestic
