ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    cb starting problem? noob question

ok. ive searched and read many threads talking about people having starting issues, but mine is sort of different. A couple days ago I came to a stop in a parking lot and as I put the car in Park it died. I tried starting it up and it just kept turning without firing. When it did fire up it died immediately and sounded like a fuel issue. After about a minute or 2 it started up fine. I tightened up my battery because it was pretty loose and everything seemed cool, but then the next day the same exact thing happened. Does this sound like a main relay or distributor issue? Im probably gonna change those this week. The battery is new so it cant be that. I am gonna try to clean off my cables tonight though. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance

have someone check for spark the next time it happens. the easiest way is to have a spare good sparkplug on hand and just pull and test the wires. make sure all 4 are getting spark. pull the dizzy cap and make sure the connections are good and the rotor is good.

it could be a main relay issue. its not hard to get the main relay just a pain because its so far up there. if you have cruise control the brain box will have to be move out of the way. once you get the relay out open it up and look very closely at the solder points. any sign of damage like brown spots or cracking means its bad. you can replace it or just resolder it if you know what your doing.

i can see you read other threads. good job searching. every single no start thread has deev repeating the same battery cable crap.

also check your ground connections. they can look good but they could be snapped. the one to the trans and the one to the fender are the most accessible and their big ones. there might be one more in back im not sure. the rest are little ones.

i would guess coil, if thats not it it may be spark, does it sputter when you drive? You may have oil in your spark plug chambers. Check that. if there is oil in them then you valve seals blew and you will have to get a valve cover gasket kit which should not cost no more then 20 bucks. If those aren't the case then point fingers at main relay but i am willing to bet its one of those two. But check for spark first, if there is spark then check for a code.

ok thanks everyone for your input. So far today it has been fine. But when it doesnt start I get that cranking sound without the firing up. I just had the timing belt and all my seals replaced a month ago. Doesnt affect driving at all, thats what is confusing me. It happens randomly and it is always when I have been driving for a while then park and try to start.

check the coil. And it may be a loose wire somewhere between the turning of the key to the spark plug.
