ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

could this bee a good turbo kit?

I have an h22a1 and i'm wanting to boost it but I was wanting to know if could you make this a good turbo kit? it seems like a good kit. i don't want to completly build the motor right now, but if i could safely put 7-8 psi on a stock block with this kit would it be worth it i think. my freind has an h22 in his 94 with a 100 shot direct port and hondata s200 on a completly stock block and sprays it going to the grocery store but please any help would be great IMG]http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x183/accord69/turbo.jpg[/IMG]

It looks decent, T3 turbo's push hard from what i hear. If your running a Stock F block, no more then 12LBS psi... H block might be more. I would be very leary on that filter though, get a truefilter, not a knockoff. Other then that, the intercooler looks decent, and the pipes are clean, waht kind of BOV is that? Provide us with a few more details

well i'm not real sure what kind kind of BOV it is but my bud down the road has one of these intercoolers on his RX7 and hasen't had a problem out of it so thats why i'm kinda leaning towerd it and it's half the price of a turbonetics or greedy kit!

oh and btw what do they want for this setup?

T3 is fairly small for an H22. Small turbos make heat. Heat is bad.

Boosting a stock-block H22 is not smart, even at low psi... unless you tune it very carefully.

h22 has 10.1 cr, the block itself will handle it because its a closed deck. on the other hand the pistons will blow, rings will blow, and connecting rods will blow because they are not meant to be under high pressure. yo have to replace the pistons with low cr like 9. somthing or even 8. something to handle it. plus get performance rings, and connecting rods. while your block is torn apart, get the main bearings for the crankshaft.

and plus if you have a h22 keep it alive, dont blow it on a chinese turbo kit.

That's partially correct. The USDM H22 has 10.1:1 compression. The JDM has 10.6:1. Type S and Euro R are 11.1:1 I believe. The higher the compression, the smaller the margin of error is when tuning. If the fuel isn't right, you'll get detonation. Too much detonation and your motor is toast. For this reason, lower compression is safest. As quickangel93 said, something in the 8.something range is best. It provides enough power off boost to drive, and enough safety when tuning to be forgiving.

The H22 ringlands are also fairly weak, and cannot handle the stress. Forged aftermarket pistons are preferred. However, the H22 has FRM sleeves, limiting your choice of forged pistons to a few (such as the Mahle Gold Series). Standard forged pistons won't be compatible with the sleeves, and they will cause damage.

Speaking of the sleeves... the FRM sleeves are very strong and good at dissipating heat. However, boosting beyond 15psi would be pushing them to their limits. Most stock sleeves, even iron ones like those found in the F series engines, can only hold so much before they give.

The OBD1 H22s are closed deck. The OBD2 H22s are open deck. Closed deck is stronger, and preferred when working with turbo.

When replacing the pistons, you'll need to replace the rods as well, as aftermarket pistons aren't compatible with OEM rods (they probably could be with modification... but that's not smart, IMO) When replacing the rods, you'll need to do the bearings as well.

So you're basically rebuilding the entire engine.

CAN you boost a stock H22? Sure. CAN it survive? Possibly. You'd need to be careful, make sure your motor is healthy, get quality parts, and tune it properly... which means learning a good deal.

If you want turbo, keep your F22, learn how a turbo system works, build a DSM setup for $1000 and enjoy until it blows... then replace the motor and do it again. In your spare time, get a junkyard motor and build it up. Once you have a strong motor, you can start upgrading your turbo parts.

Turbo "kits" are really only for the rich, lazy, or ignorant... or those who fit all 3 descriptions.

How do you type with no punctuation?

Anyway, if you don't want to blow it up, then I suggest you learn everything you can about the motor you plan to boost, and the specific turbo parts you plan on using.

www.cb7tuner.com/bookstore.htm is a good place to start if you have no idea what you're looking for. Forums are scattered information, and only good when you know what questions you should be trying to answer. The books there will get you started. I recommend the Bell and Kojima books myself. The Hartman book is a bit more advanced, but it's good if you want to know how to tune.

Don't EVER trust someone else's luck against your better judgement. Saying "oh so and so did it and he hasn't blown up yet" is like saying "oh my friend had sex without a condom and he didn't get the girl pregnant or pick up any diseases"... not a good excuse to follow suit. 8psi IS doable on an H22, especially a USDM H22 (which most people swap in JDM, which have higher compression). However, the Honda motors aren't made for turbo, and it WILL fail in time. The Prelude also had that motor in there already, I assume... they didn't pay $2000 to install it, just to risk blowing it up.

Yeah yeah, I know I don't type write. Ok well mabye I'm being a little trigger happy with the turbo build. So i'm going to the dyno for a better tune next week, since I'm running my buddy's motor chip mabye that will give me that "edge" I was talking about earler, Well thanks every body for the help and for talking me out of some thing that I would probly regret

Well I'm boosted on stock internals at 7psi, no problems. And although it took almost all summer for the project to be completed, it is street tuned on EcTune by a very good tuner. Tuning is everything and dont cheap out on parts! Find yourself a good tuner or learn yourself, but make sure you, or someone else knows what they are doing because a lot can go wrong.
