As always, I'm broke, and need a creative way to temporarily be able to engage my starter until I can fix my ignition switch.
I have a 91 manual EX that I've been push-starting for the past week.
My "I" and "II" positions work on the switch. It's the "III" (starter) position that doesn't work.
I bought my car used with an alarm already installed. I noticed there are some wires tapped into the ignition switch wires that go to some non-stock relays I think are wired to the alarm (starter kill?) In fact, I'm not entirely sure if it's my switch that's gone bad, but perhaps something to do with the alarm relays that's preventing me from engaging the starter. When I go to start the car I can hear some relay under the dash clicking partially, sometimes once, sometimes rapidly. It was doing this just before position III stopped working. Now I'm push-starting my car.
Is there a way to "hot wire" the ignition switch to engage the starter somehow? I already tried jumping the white wire to the black/white wire from the back side of the switch (instead of turning to position III). All that did was the same thing (clicking relay under the dash), but no starter.
(and it's not the starter, cuz I don't even hear the starter contacts clicking at all under the hood).
Any thoughts, suggestions?
