ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    lowest stock compression

okay, let me first apologize cause i can't seem to find the thread that lists all the info for the possible motor swaps, but i know there is one.

what im looking to find is which stock motor has the lowest comp. ratio of all the motors that can be swapped in to our cb's. I have an H23 and i plan on definately boosting in the near future, but i don't want to build the H if there is a better motor for boost that i could get. any help is greatly appreciated. peace.

It's in the sticky in the Swaps forum (most useful threads are in the stickies, if not stickies themselves, in the index threads)

The F22A, the stock engine, has 8.8:1 compression. That is the lowest you'll find. The JDM F22B DOHC, which is pretty much the Japanese equivalent to the H23, has 9.2:1 compression, which would be next. The H23 has 9.8:1 compression, which is boostable, but pushing the limits of safe tunability.

You CAN boost a VERY high compression motor. The higher the compression, the smaller the window for error is.

Honestly, ANY stock Honda motor isn't made for turbo (save for a few that came from the factory... I can think of 3). An H23 started life in a Prelude. Probably driven carefully for the first 5-6 years by the original owner. It's a US car, so the chances that the second owner beat on it are pretty good... 5-6 years old means a kid could buy the car and have fun in it. Being a US motor, it's also likely to have pretty high mileage. Aside from the fact that it's not meant for turbo, the engine has probably seen a good bit of wear and tear. If you boost a stock Honda motor, be prepared to rebuild it or replace it in the future. It may not blow... but I wouldn't count on it lasting forever.

Now, if you're going to build the H, the stock compression means nothing. You can change that with the pistons. The H23 has the same FRM sleeves as the H22, however... so standard forged pistons won't be compatible. You'll need special pistons, such as the Mahle Gold Series, or you'll just have to resleeve (which would be your best bet... stronger, too)
