ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    CV Boot.

My driver side CV Boot needs to be replaced. The other side looks okay, but I'm wondering if I should just do them both. I've also read that some of us are just swapping out the whole drive shaft? Is this recommended and how much am I looking at for parts if I did this myself?

usually if the boot is bad, the axle follows suit soon after.

a couple hundred would cover parts cost to replace both.

BUT, if you aren't very experienced in working with cars, this job is a PITA, and unless you want your car to be underivable while you fight your way through it, it would be your best bet to take it to a decent shop, and let them do it, it is like 2 hours labor, and it is worth it to save yourself a headache....

    just my .02

p.s. the autozone cv's are shit, go to a real parts store

Just buy a new axle. Saves time and hassle. Plus you get warranty and if it fucks up you can blame someone else.

I've got three cb7's now, so I'm gonna take the time and learn to do it myself. Should I get the new axle from honda, and I'm assuming it will come with the boot? Thanks for the replies!

oem is prefered but autozone has the whole axle for about 55 dollars with lifetime warrenty so if you buy both sides "around 120 bucks" you could use the warrenty for all three of your cb's

Please, Leave me some feeedback on my ride ^CLICK ^CLICK ^CLICK

Summit Racing has some Mevotech's for 63.00 a piece. Has anyone tried them and are they good quality?

Advanced, Autozone, Napa etc all charge about 60-70 when you bring back your old axle and give it to them. Otherwise it's 100+ per axle. Honda will probably charge 200 or so for one axle. I'd go with Napa because it's a lifetime warranty and when I priced them out Napa was the cheapest! and yes a new boot comes with the axle.

I've had great luck with Napa parts. I'm running one Napa remanufactured axle, and one Autozone remanufactured axle. The Napa one is about 4 years old, the Autozone one is about 1 year old. Both are doing fine (and the Napa one has had over 60,000 miles on it... H22 power, 6 puck clutch, driven fairly hard... passenger side).

OEM is ALWAYS best, but Autozone is ok. Napa is probably the best ramanufactured one you'll find around. I have 2 friends that have used axles from Advance Auto and they both report vibrations and clicking... not bad, but they don't know why.

Changing the boot is a pain in the ass. I honestly don't know ANYONE that has just changed the boot!

I never heard of the Mevotech axles that Summit carries. Summit stuff is fairly decent, and that's a good price if they're new. I'd be wary of brand new axles for such a cheap price, though!

As for doing it yourself, it's not too hard. If you have access to any power or air tools, it will help greatly with the axle nut. If not, you'll want a long breaker bar.

Also, be prepared to replace your lower ball joint as well. It has to be separated to do the axle, and it's easy to damage it (crushing the bolt or ripping the boot). The chance that it's already shot is quite good as well.

Doing both axles at the same time is a great idea. Get it done now, and you won't have to worry about doing it again for a very long time (unless you get crappy axles )
