ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    temp sensor question

I got spare temp sensors from my old car (saturn SL1 SOHC tbi) and i'm starting to lean that a sensor is bad, Can i use the old sensor from that car, or is it going to be a completley different configuation for the sensor itself, i figured if the pigtail was the same, and the thread was the same, i should be good to go... what u guys think

Temp sensors are not universal. The ECU is configured to operate with a different voltage based on the impedance of the thermal resistor/diode in the sensor itself.

Don't do it. ETCs and thermal sending units are dirt cheap. Just go to Autozone or order one from Majestic and do it right.

Besides, if you're problem is the ETC (right below the distributor), you especially want to replace that with an original sensor as it controls more than you think. When my ETC went bad, the car would stall, wouldn't start, ran like shit. It was a terrible experience. Since replacing it, ZERO problems.

So i went out to the JY today, got 3 sensors. 2 Long and 1 Stubby... and this doesnt make much sence to me. I pull 2 out of the first car, near both rad hoses. the one on the front of the engine was a short stubby one, and the one on the rear was a longer one. Then i get to the 2nd motor, pulled the one on the fropnt, it was long...? How is it one motor has a short stubby one in front, and the other has a long one.. Which sensor is made to go where?

        Thanks

Im almost positive that the front one (under the distributor, not the one on the front water neck) is stubby. Why don't you pull yours out and compare?

                  ??? I had to buy a new one...and it was like...$10...dirt cheap.

It was not the one up front (which you can see on your sig...Left side...bright teal color...right by upper hose) but the one behind that one right above where the tranny and engine join...guys who replaced my clutch in class bumped it. There is also one near the power steering rack correct?

I have mine unplugged (the one that you can see easily in your sig) and I get better gas mileage with it like that...by like 20 miles on one tank. I need to test it to confirm that sensor is the cause of this...might all be in my head...and prolly is
