ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Can you guys help me here?

    Hey whats up guys,

I'm a noob here and need your advice and opinion. The attached picture shows a circled portion with an arrow on it, my question is, what type of gasket is that? If that even is one, because it is slowly dripping some oil from that area.
Any help or info is appreciated guys!

    Here is the attached picture:

Sorry, I think my explanation is horrible but need some help guys.

I'd have to say that it is the front main seal leaking, and then dripping out from there. Only way to really tell is to take off the crank and lower timing belt cover to see though...are you sure its not just the oil pan gasket right next to it?

There is a gasket there. It’s for your timing belt cover but there should not be oil there. I could be any thing from front main seal going bad to the oil pump seal it could be cam seals could even be the valve cover gasket .

      IT IS WHAT IT IS

Yeah, I checked the oil pan gasket and that has to be replaced...
It's just that where the arrow is pointing, it seems like the cover is missing some kind of screw and for sure some oil is slowly leaking from there.... maybe I do have to open up the covers....thanks slammedteg..

Thanks vh22, I guess I might have to replace all those seals ( main seal, oil pump seal, cam seals) I checked the valve cover gasket and that one is cool.
I might as well change all those out since I'm going to do the timing belt soon.... *sigh*......

It's just that area confused the heck out of me.....

it shouldnt be too confusing man. i know ive gotten confused on a few things in that area tho. some of the seals look the same. but just be sure to put everything back where you got it and you should be good. who knows. it may just be your oil pan gasket leaking

Only thing I can add is this, that seal there is only to keep dust away from your timing belt...oil there means a leak elsewhere...and if you have those seals leaking then I would think it is time for a t-belt change.

Unless you are like me and the first time you had your timing belt changed you had someone else do it and didn't have them change your seals.

(I just did my t-belt as it was time again and I changed all the seals myself)

If those seals are leaking it's cause they are old (Mine did that...stock seals lasted two t-belts 190k miles, in fact the water pump was leaking...the seals weren't) and need to be changed...and...the t-belt should have been changed by the time they start to leak at least twice if they were installed correctly the first time...however...it is best to change those seals EACH time you do a t-belt...leaking oil is not good for your t-belt.

Thanks Shadow1, I'm hoping it's just the oil pan gasket, but I highly doubt it... =( This is going to be my first time working on the car so hopefully I won't get too lost...lol. Thanks tho!

bcjammerx, yeah, I'm definitely going to have to do the t-belt within this coming month and do all the seals as well. I've never done the timing belt, probably gonna have to ask a friend to do it for me and I can tackle all the rest. Hope it all goes well and I'll post the outcome once it's all completed!

Thanks for the help guys! I really do appreciate it!

If there is oil leaking under the timing belt cover, it can cause the belt to snap. Be careful! If you want to do a quick and easy check, pull the valve cover and check the timing belt for signs of oil or unusual wear. Oil destroys rubber, so if it's leaking in there, it could ruin your belt.
