ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Many things could cause surging. Vacuum leaks, a clogged IACV, low coolant levels, etc.

Have you noticed a pattern to when it does it? Are you in gear (if you have an auto)? Is it when the car is cold? What RPMs does it surge between? does it stop if you step down on the throttle? If you can establish a pattern, it is easier to diagnose where the problem is.

IACV is Idle Air Control Valve, and it is one of the things that helps the car maintain a nice, steady idle when your foot is off of the gas. They can get clogged over time and stop working properly. It sounds like that might be your problem. Do a search and you will find many articles on how to take it off and clean it. Its really easy.

There are some stickies at the top of the Beginner Tech/Performance page that might be able to help you, or you could just try a search (in the blue bar).

I'll just ride on my happiness regarding a little discovery I've made...

I recently had the same problem: idle would stick to 110 randomly:
TW sensor under the distributor cap goes bad, eventually throwing a CEL code 6.
Find a buddy with a CB7 and some tech know-how or a manual, and put his TW into your engine if he's ok with it.
Drive around for a bit. If the idle is good, you'll have your culprit. Just buy a new sensor from a dealer.

                If not, then possibilities are:

                dirty IACV (or malfunctioning)
                maladjusted FITV (rarely malfunctions)
                vacuum leak (hoses gone old)
                air in coolant (bleed, refill)
                anything else I've forgotten.

                Good luck!

Search around the forum technical sections under FITV (fast idle thermo valve) and IACV (idle air control valve) for your answers. Also, search intake manifold related vacuum leaks.

Your answer lies there, been covered many times. You have to do research to understand the system somewhat in order to locate and fix your problem. That or just simply repair/check every idle related component to see if it works properly.

                  - FITV
                  - IACV
                  - air starting valve
                  - check for vacuum leaks on hoses and all parts attached to intake manifold
                  - idle adjustment screw set properly (if not, reset ECU after adjusted)

The FITW seems to be problem with a lot of Honda models of this era.

                      Idle fluctuation

Check your fast idle valve. Had that problem with mine, turns out the fast idle valve needed to be tightened
