    alternator wire...

    ok so get this...my alternator wire that runs over my engine valve cover to the alternator fried. It completly melted away. it doesnt make sense. has anybody else ever had this problem before? right now its in the shop as they figure this out, but my thing is, WTF! i've never heard of this problem ever...and im worried im gonna need a new wire to run from my wire harness....

    Forget new wire, that's cheap, think about the fact that it sounds like your voltage regulator in your alt fried...that's a bad thing.

      this has to do with a ground. You need to check and make sure these is not corrosion or oxidation on the grounding connection. Corrosiion and oxidation cause resistance and can cause damage to other parts so yes def check your voltage regualtor. acutually check your battery terminals make sure that your ground to the frame and power at the starter are fine and then check the connection and regulator at the alt. and check the alt at the store to.
