    duplicolor auto paint

i'm going to paint my car when the rainy weather passes. my teacher was talking about a duplicolor paint that is already mixed and ready to pour into the gun and spray. canadiantire has it for $25 a quart. has anybody used this paint before?and would you recommend it.

Think of it like pre mix coolant.. You pay the same price for half water compared to straight coolant and mixing it yourself..... Instead of getting a quart of paint, you get about a half quart of base already mixed with much cheaper reducer.... You will probably need 3 or 4 quarts depending on prep and color... You could do it with 2 quarts of un reduced base coat and get some mixing cups for free from local paint supply and reduce it yourself and get a little better quality paint for about the same price..

i was going to use tremclad and reduce it %25 but it would take a few weeks to cure solid and would be messy. i'm going to paint it black and the duplicolor has no recoat window so if im not happy with the job i can respray whenever i want but i dont know how well it will cover, the shine, and how well it sticks

I'd primer the car before to paint, it will uniform the color and it will help protect from rust if the paint chips.

                  You have base coat paint?

If no i'd recommand to get basecoat paint.

After that get at least 3 coats of clear. It protects your paint and it makes it look nice and shiny.

The last steps (wetsand and buffer) are only necessary if you want a super slick paint job. Keep in mind, if you lay the basecoat on too heavy and get orange peel, and then clear it, you'll never get rid of the orange peel.

#1 prep work makes the paint job
#2 take your time dont rush the coats.
                          #3 good luck

painting a car is not easy imho but if you take your time and read up on some tecniques you should get a pretty good finish. and get a buffer to make the paint shine not the cheap orbital ones from the auto parts store lol...

edit: i would get another quart of color, also there are a bunch of guys that paint professionally on here i would suggest you hit them up. i think there is a paint guide here somwhere also read this: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthre...=painting+tips

Number one rule is don't skimp out on the prep work. The finished product is only as good as the prep work.
