    Painting alternator

I'm just curious how other people have done this on their cars. My alternator is looking sorta crappy but it works fine and I'm just wondering if I can paint it. Should I just tape it up really carefully or use a brush or do I have to take it apart?
Being normal is probably the lamest thing you can try to be

      Gotta take it apart.

Rebuilding an alternator really isnt that hard at all. Once its apart you'll be like,"damn, thats really not that complex at all"

      Lol

Yes, take it apart and paint the housing only.

you really should take it apart to paint it.

another alternative would be to clean it with an S.O.S pad. later.

Usually a good pressurewash gets mine clean. I paint quite a bit of stuff but never thought about painting an alternator. I'd take it apart and paint it
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

That's not a bad idea, since where they're located in CB's are susceptible to heat and dirt, etc. They do lose their color quickly and become nasty looking fast.

Just separate, and paint the housing. What kind of paint were you planning on using?

              life is good.

definitely engine paint, probably the very high heat variety that some stores have

Duplicors high temp paint is very good for this job. Requires minimal prep. If you want an OEM color with shine alloy silver is what i used
