    Wrinkle Red Paint ?

So I have acquired a can of VHT Wrinkle red paint. I am going to be painting my B20 Valve cover and am wondering how I can remove the paint from my lettering.

Anyone have any sound advice on how to do this and do it right the first time? I am going to be following the cure method not the time method.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Tape over them before you paint and peel off the tape? Sand off the old paint.

Sanding it off doesn't take too long and the letters still look good.

If they are already straight metal before you wrinkle it put chapstick or a thin coat of oil on the lettering so it will be less likely to stick to their surface. Then proceed to sand the rest off (Sand it after paint is completely cured!) so any metal dust doesn't cake up in the paint.

use a sanding block and sand until all the paint on the letters is gone. The block will help steady the sanding so you dont accidentally sand the valve cover

I just recently had my VC re-powder coated wrinkle black. I used a palm sander with 800grit to get the bulk of the powder coating off, then 1500grit to make it nice and shiny.

I was thinking about going with a dremel or a palm sander. We will see if I get around to it this weekend. I will post pics.

                        That looks fantastic.

I tried the same stuff on one of my spare VC's and it came out terrible.

Just thought Id throw this out there since you guys are valve cover painting and shit.

i personally like to take the paint off of the letters afterwards with an angle grinder. It makes a circular pattern in the finished look if you do it right. Hard to explain if your not familiar with an angle grinder. But basically, as it spins in a circle it grinds in a circle. It leaves a circular grind pattern in the letters, and looks pretty sharp when done correctly.

In the pic that has the wrinkle black finish, you can see the lines from sanding going across the H from side to side.

Instead of those lines being straight, picture them circular. Thats what Im talking about.

Thanks for the tip. Im not 100% pleased with the finish the palm sander left across the logo. Although, with the sanding marks being straight across, it kind of looks like brushed aluminum or stainless steel.

I'll try it with my angle-grinder and see how it looks. Any suggestion on what attachment to use?
