    side molding glued on?!

well i was attempting to take my side molding off today to get my car ready to get painted and i read on this site that the side molding has clips that hold it to the door and you can see them if you take your door panel off...

so i removed my drivers door panel and took the bolt off on the end of the side molding but i couldnt find any sign of clips holding the rest of it on...so i got a flat head screw driver and started lightly prying it away from the car to see if i could see any of these clips, but all i saw was what looked like glue behind the molding holding it on...now the only explanation i can think of is what im calling a side molding is not what was reffered to in the thread i read...when i say side molding i mean the piece which is cirlced in the picture below...now im gonna feel real dumb if thats not the "side molding"

do you guys definitely reccomend taking it off before i get my car painted?

When we painted my CB7 .. I had them paint the mouldings same color ... imo it looks good..
Your CB7 (looks black) and on darker colored Cb's .. I think its nice ..

Remember .. taking them off is a pita .. and trying to put them back on is also a pita ..
Also .. paying for *new* ones is .. wellll .. really alotta $$$ .. those clips never come off
easily, and most (99% of the time) break.
Just have um painted the same color ... IMHO it'll look fine.

The paint will adhere real well ... whoever paints your car, will know what/how to
do the *non metal* parts .. trust me .. you'll like it ..

it's either glue or double sided tape. you have to work between loosening the clips so you can get to that point. it's about 4 or 5 inches wide in the center of the molding. the clips are right under the reinforcement bar/strip on the outer door panel. the most forward clip is something you cannot get to so once you have the one nut and couple clips undone, you simply slide the molding forward to get it off the car. the remaining clip can be pushed into the door cavity for removal.

the anniversary edition and SE have painted moldings from the factory. the moldings on my SE look great and they're original. the Japan Si and Si-T accords have painted mouldings as well. I would highly recommend it. The rubber on those things start looking bad after years of sun so its well worth it to keep the car looking good. IMO, they should have painted the bumper and trim on all non DX versions...

it's easy to say "leave the molding on and have it painted over" but like, it's good to take the moldings off, often there is rust forming behind there, and it's better to fix it then to go get new paint and find out next year rust starts leaking out of the door mouldings cuz you didn't paint behind em

                        just my opinion
