    Kurobei's Fiberglass Flushmount Fabrication attempt

Well this isn't exactly a full D.I.Y. coz it's somewhat of a prototype that was fueled by boredom. But here is my current project. The Fiberglass Flushmount!

I'll say this right now, Fiberglass is a bitch to work with! I gotta hand it to fliplyricist1 (custom chargespeed) and Dutch Accord (rear roofmount spoiler)
I looked at the marvelous projects and thought....hey why not? So this is my first attempt to duplicate the oem flushmount since sourcing a reliable fabricator at the moment is very hard...

As you can see, the waves from the rushed parts of Should've taken my time

Aside from the wavy areas,I'm still happy that I got it this accurate tho for a first attempt!

Spoiler is just hanging off the ledge, it fits better than it looks, I didn't actually tape it on or anything (another issue that needs to be addressed..screws or 3m tape? i'm thinking 3m tape)

You can see some more of the imperfections.

My 2nd attempt is going to look 2x better than this! I started late one night right after work and was working on this till 7AM in the morning and I got pretty tired and anxious to finish it b4 falling asleep. I took a look at the finished product in the morning and found out that some areas didn't mix well with the hardener and since this was outside in my backyard, I'm assuming the wind slightly pulled and caused ripples or waves and kept it from looking smooth the way I left it! Now I know the correct ratio of hardener and resin so it won't dry out as fast and I'm going to work with smaller pieces of fiber mat than use huge pieces at once which also aided towards the imperfections.... However, i'm pretty happy with how my first attempt came out and I know my 2nd try is going to look even better or near perfect!

This is only a project and I'm not sure if i'm going to mass produce these if I can get it perfected. I still want to try to find a professional that can make more at a time... as u can see how long it took me to create this one. I'll keep u guys posted!

Thanks man, Yeah I wish I wasn't in such a hurry... Spoiler was looking perfect too! I should've just stopped half way and worked on it again the next day but I thought I had to at least put one more layer. I didn't know whether or not putting half a layer and adding new mat to it later if it was going to set right. This time i'm not going to leave it outside in the wind....that screwed it up too.

Will do! I actually went out today and bought more supplies. I bought some fiber cloth and some more fiber mat. I never worked with fiber cloth b4 but it looks more "cloth" like and maybe more easier to work with?

Sup man, naw this is my daily driver.... if you want to catch me, your best bet would be on airbase pkwy. I'm also at Mels in Vacaville on Friday nights sometimes just to see whats going on for the local illegal races. Starbucks in fairfield used to be the meetup spot but then F.P.D likes to run everyone out that isn't a paying customer or just loitering around the parking lot. In vacaville mels, police don't really care unless u are doing something stupid in the parking lot. But yeah...we should meet up sometime. Oh I also visit Pick n' Pull at least once a week....

It's 1:23 AM and i'm currently working on my 2nd flushmount. This one so far is coming out Waaaay better than my first attempt. I'm using fiberglass cloth rather than mat this time. The cloth is a little more easier to deal with but I think the mat is better as far as thickness goes. I've laid one layer so far and I'm waiting for it to get hard b4 i lay on another. Pics hopefully 2maro late afternoon. I got work in 7hrs but I don't care =P

Is it possible you think to fabricate a rear wing spoiler?
