I broke my CB cluster, playing with the fuel guage ofcourse.
I've seen many BB6 clusters in cb's, but most lack that "Finished" look
Or people butcher the CAR to fit it in place. My goals were simple:
1) Hardly touch the car.
2) 100% Reversable for any reason
3) Be the first working AUTOMATIC cluster swap (That I know lol)
4) All lights working properly
I did this swap some time ago, I think now 2 months ago....
Anyway I modified the cluster mainly
I started with test fitting right after I got it.
Then I cut the crap out of it and kept fitting it over and over
I put electrical tape to re-seal the cluster and to make the sides less noticable (The BB6 cluster seems to have a very tall lense)
I then pulled out my saudering iron and made myself a "Factory" conversion harness. The wireing diagrahm I got from this site was pretty close.
At first I just tried to direct wire the tranny lights....NO, all the lights require diodes. Theres also another little thing about the Auto Tranny. It has a "PGM-FI" control switch, that when you shift from (P) or (N) it lowers the RPM for easy engagement. Without it...it feels like you could rip mounts if you left it that way for too long. That also requires diodes to function.
The CB cluster had all the parts I needed.
The last part was fitting, which surprisingly was the quickest.
Just like all the other swaps, cutting the dash had to be done BUT, there was NO need to cut the air duct. The wireing sits nicely ontop of it. If you cut away the top of the cluster backing you can stuff the wireing behind the air duct and thus allows the cluster the sit flush againt the duct.
I never took pictures of the dash cutting sadly, Ill work on it though.
The amber Dash is a different story.
I got all my amber from the DSM Eclipses Climate controls.
12 Cars had to endure my pry bar for one car to have an amber dash.
Video if you want to see it.
I also went and turned the Imobilizer light into my alarm light.
All in all, Manual or Automatic
Get it done, it looks totally factory if done right and keeps the CB looking current. Plus it is a work of art.
