    interior dyeing problems

Alright, does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? I mixed Rit dye into water(the same mixture ratio the bottle said) and I've out the headrests into this mixture fully submerged. I pulled them out to check them about 2 hours later and they were still maroon. I know I should only put the covers in there but I'm too lazy. Is this my problem? Also, are there any better methods for dyeing? I want this to go as smooth as possible.

im thinking mybe the foam inside the headrests is sucking up the dye??? maybe thats why the cloth isnt changing color

Black. I even left the headrests in the dye over Spring Break while I was in Mexico and I came back and pulled them out and they were still maroon. Should I remove the fabric and bleach them? That would make the black more visible. I might just take it to an upholstery shop and see what is wrong with my mixture. If they can't help me out I'll just buy the fabric from them.

maybe theres too much water to the dye ratio. try less water.

Well, I'm going to go get some seats out of an LX(none of that lumbar mess) and dye those for as long as they take so I can still have some seats to sit in while they're dyeing.

I don't mind leather for those reasons but I like to drive fast on country roads and my but would slide all over the place on a slick surface like leather. I'm beginning to think that reupholstering is the best way to go. But I know nothing about uphoilstery shops. Do they offer factory-like fabric? What are some average prices? And while we're on the dyeing(or not to dye for that matter) would it be better to dye the vinyl on my doors or would results be about the same as the seats? I might want to have those done too. What else is available instead of vinyl that I could do the doors in? Thanks for the help.
