I'm not sure if this is the right forum to section to post in but I have a problem. In my floor, I pulled up the carpet and the first layer of tar sheet in the driver's side floor board. Under the first layer of tar sheet I noticed that the metal was halfway eaten up with rust. It's not all the way through the floor so I don't think it's that big of a problem. My question is: can I just cover the bottom tar with a polyurethane coat? I want to seal off all the rust but I'm afraid if I tear up anymore floor then I'll just uncover more problems. Can I just seal this off?

Re: floor rust
If you know anyone who does body work, I would just have them cut out the section where it is rusting, then have a new thick piece of metal welded in there to prevent it from coming back.Originally posted by Jarrett

You wouldnt need to paint it since the carpet is going to be covering it anyways.Adam - Retired OG member from '03
