racing harness without harness bar = dangerous?

on this other forum, someone said that doing this can result in spinal injury.

"If you're harnesses are gonna be bolted to the seat frame then they are gonna go over your shoulders then straight down. In a wreck if there is any forward momentum and the harnesses restrain you all the forward momentum will be transferred straight down onto your shoulders therefore putting all the pressure on your spine."

    is that true?

i would agree with that...im no physic major, but if its not bolted to the correct location, there seems to be the chance of spinal compression

      Yes.
And there is ALWAYS forward momentum in a crash.

im not looking into a roll cage or harness bar because this car is my daily driver
and i still carry passengers around so it wouldnt seem too good.
cant i bolt the harnesses somewhere else?

Not and have it serve any kind of purpose like it was supposed to do. Why do you want them anyway? Looks or are you actually going to use them? Reason I ask is because you can source a removable harness bar. If it's just for looks, don't waste your time. You'll end up hurting yourself if you install them wrong and actually use them.

well, i need the racing harnesses because i will get racing seats soon, and my accord uses the old school seat belts that come up from the seat of the car to the side. so if i take off my stock seats, i wont have any seat belts. plus the racing harnesses match up with the seats much more.

There is a PROCEDURE i repeat PROCEDURE for tying harnesses down. If NOT done properly it can result in DEATH if not FATAL INJURY. This is why there are sites with info on PROPERLY putting a harness on. Removable harness bar Sparco has one as I recall or you can just make on its not hard. Just a bar with two bolt points behind the seat like the sparco unit. Actually the sparco has a little more points but still easy to mimic with a welder and some high grade bolts. And as mentioned its pointless to get them if they are not going to put to use AKA road course racing.

                      well, like i said
i want new seats, but my seat belts are attached to my seats, so i have to go with a new set of seat belts. and those aftermarket harnesses really match with the racing seats.

so your saying its important to tie the seatbelts properly, but almost anyone can make their own harness bar! sure, getting the proper angle and such...you can just eyeball!cake! i dunno about that. doesnt look like sparco makes one for us

I used to. I don't anymore. It wouldn't be that hard to make your own really. Weld some hard points into the B-Pilars then cut a piece of 1-5/8" .120 wall d.o.m to length, weld on some ears for the harness and you're done. You could even get ahold of someone that can bend that stuff and put a kick back on it so it's not right up against the seat. Cut a slot at the ends and boom - you've got a removable harness bar. Pretty simple really. Time consuming, but that's about it.

You'd probably be well over built for street racing. I doubt he's running faster than 11.50, so really it's not even required for him to be legal at a track.

I was thinking, when geting my bucket seats and harness. To put the harness were the back seat belts go, although I would no longer be able to use my rear seats.

Is there any other way so that I can still use the back seats or am I just going to have to deal with it...

A removable bar would be the best bet man. Put it in for when you're actually somewhere where you need it, then take it out when you aren't. Rock some stockers or somethin.

You're talking about one of those things where you can't have your cake and eat it too unfortunately.
