282,000 miles and never been cleaned

the other day i opened my trunk and saw the license plate lamps and was disgusted. so i had to do something about it, i always wondered why they weren't as bright as they should have been

inside the cover

left not cleaned and right cleaned

hey look you can see...


much better...


its not anything amazing, but thought I'd share...but makes me wonder how things like this go under the radar?

I did that a few months ago.
Mine were so gunked up, I though the bulbs were blwon out.

Just very, very slowly from dust and water. That buildup is over 15 or so years like the OP said, so more than likely, if you clean them on your CB now, you won't really need to ever again, unless your CB reaches the age of 30 lol.

Looks better I did this to mine a while back. At night you could barly tell they were on. Now I advertise my liscene plate to all which can be a bad thing too.

the iphone camera made em look more white than what they really are, its the stock yellowish color.

hahaha.. I did this as well. What prompted me was that I actually got a ticket for not having lights for the plates.

If you cleaned them and ran a thin bead of clear silicone around these when putting them back on, I doubt they would every get dirty again on the inside.
