    DRL Insight Module Kit Help!!

I just got a used Insight module and I need help installing it. I want to wire my H4's as low/high and my H1's as driving lights. I know cpmike posted a quick sketch on how to wire jdm's with this setup but i don't have instructions or spare fuses to guess n' check what wire goes to what. Thanks!!

I don't know if you need the diagram or not, but this is all I can help you with since I never used my kit.

    Good luck bro

        High beams not working...

Worked on the module install today....

Couple of questions I would like to ask for the people who installed this on jdm headlamps. Do your Hi-beam indicator light stay on all the time when this module is hooked up?

Also I'm not getting any Hi-beams. The fillament in the bulb does not egnite when i push down on the stalk.....

I followed the directions according to CPMikes write-up however maybe i missed something??? The daytime running lights are functional tho. When I turn my car to ignition, they will light up and turn off when i have my headlamps completely on

There is one wire that if you disconnect it, they will stay on when the headlights are on. I would rather have them stay on all the time, I think it'd look better.

Just check your wiring from the bright to the plug thing you have, and make sure all the wires are secure. I never used my kit, so I can't help you too much there.. but cpmike can.

be aware that H4 bulbs will prematurely wear out faster if both filaments are on simultaneously for a long period of time. when both filaments are on there is a lot more heat buildup. if you'd notice that in most H4 equipped cars, when the high beam filament is triggered, the low beam filament is turned off.

in our case, our cars have independent high/low beam wiring, so the attached diagram will run both filaments on the H4 when the high beam is triggered. i would try and relay the signal somehow to where the low beam can turn off when the high beam is on. just a heads up for you!

to answer your no-high-beam problem, the reason why they don't light up is because the ground of the high beam wiring is connected to the H4 plug. the positive side of the high beam wiring needs to be connected to the H4 plug in order for it to turn on. the diagram mike drew is reversed on that part but the rest is correct. the "cutoff" wire is correct too. good luck!

Thanks for your advice Timmy. I think i actually did try what u said about reversing those 2 wires but if I remember right, the hi-beam fillament will stay on all the time and can't be controlled to turn off or on manually.

One thing I think is weird but probably normal when using this kit is that, my hi-beam indicator light stays on.

The kit works as far as how I had it wired to CPMikes instructions...they will turn on when my ingition is turned and when I flip the headlamps on, they will turn off. The main reason why I bought this kit was that I wanted the H4's to work as hi's and lo's....but something obviously isn't working right according to plans.

timmy, my diagram is correct with having the extra GROUND hooked up to the H4, i specifically did not use the POSITIVE on purpose.

the H4 bulbs have three pins- positive, low-filament *ground*, and high-filament *ground*.

when the parking lights are turned on, all FOUR of the bulbs get a positive voltage to their first pin. they dont turn on because the other side of the bulbs, the grounds, arent connected.

when you turn the knob further so the lowbeams turn on, what that does is connects the GROUND wire to the low-filament ground. so that makes a full circuit, positive and negative are both connected, so the low beams turn on.

when you pull the lever to turn the highbeams on, it connects the second ground, so the H1's get a full circuit too.

This is called a ground-switched system, its how hondas are set up, its not the traditional US-style electronics.

so i did the diagram that way on purpose, the GROUND wire from the H1 gets reconnected to the third ground pin on the H4- turning the parking lights on gives power to the H4, turning the lowbeams on connects the first ground, and pulling the lever connects the second ground.

and kurobei, when i had my car set up according to this diagram, absolutely nothing was out of the ordinary. H4s worked as high/lows, and the highbeam indicator only came on when the highbeams were on. recheck your wiring and make sure its according to the pic....

on regular accords the high beam light functions as the DRL right?

mine does the same thing. except when i have the low beams on, the indicator light is dim, but when i flick on the highs, the indicator lights up normal

the high beam indicator stays on all the time cause its sending current to that spot...i tried to isolate it with a diode but it dont work, so what i do is put a switch on the DRL module, so when its off the blue high beam indicator is off...but in any other way if you leave it running with the normal lights then you wont get rid of it, at least what i had tried to do.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!
