    A quick update!

Last weekend my buddy and I towed an RX8 back from KC, and we've been working on dropping the transmission to replace the clutch ever since. Right as we were leaving last Saturday at 6 AM to pick it up, I heard a "crash" from the garage. Both headlights fell from a shelf and shattered.

We still have the housings in just fine condition, but we will need new glass before we can continue.

As for designs, we've got a few ideas in that department as well. We wanted to try heating and bending/forming CCFL tubes to make a custom shape that follows the contour of the housing and glass, but we've since researched that this is probably a futile effort and a waste of time. Instead, the new plan is to use a crystal clear acrylic rod that we heat and shape to the contour. The back surface will be formed to a flat edge, so we can edge light the back of the rod with LEDs, and the front will be scuffed to diffuse the light so it can be seen. We will also be able to cut notches/indents or such into the plastic to create angel eye effects, etc.

I plan to convert the intersection and cornering lights to LED as well, and I think I'm going to try to do some sort of Audi "LED edge strip" either in the bumper cover, in the intersection lights, or perhaps in the headlights if they're not too flashy already.

Finally, I plan to do the "accented" lighting, like the LED/acrylic tube CCFL/angel eye above with RGB LEDs, which will allow me to adjust the color for fancy effects. My biggest concern is making it look nice, and not ricey/flashey.

I always wanted to find a way to create a "glow" in my headlights, especially since i have projectors. I want to fill the rest of the housing with a faint glow, like a neon light would give off... without making the source of the light visible.

I think this is doable, somehow. I think it's going to require having a molding that you can see, that is sort of a "covering" for the illuminating element, and the source, say LEDs, will actually face the rear of the headlight and be diffused through some sort of plastic diffuser. The diffuser could be the edge-lit rod idea I was thinking about, but just facing backwards, or even a piece of smoked/semi-translucent acrylic or such.
