changing brake lights (I'm an idiot)

So, about a week ago the Brake Light Out indicator comes on my gauge. I go to the back to see which one it is and then go to change it out. I thought all I would have to do is remove the trim near it and turn and pull. Well, the damn thing wouldn't move an inch. So I get out my owners manual and it shows a picture that basically says Turn and pull. I've been fooling with it on and off again for the last week and am pissed about it What the hell am I doing wrong. (BTW I feel like a moron about the whole thing ) Any help would be appreciated

This is the area that the bulb is (Driver's side, Outer Part of Taillights)(It's a wagon)



The bulb holders. You can see the back of the top one in the picture, but the one I need to replace is the bottom one.

I CAN'T TURN IT!!!!! Any suggestions? I really don't want to have to go somewhere to get them to change my brake light. I would rather be ticketed than endure the humiliation.

Yeah, maybe. I don't know, I may just hit it with a hammer to get it loose. jk
