    SPL Competitions

Hey guys, any of you ever use your cb7 in SPL competitions. I'm getting that Eclipse Titanium on saturday and then a JL Audio 1000/1 two weeks later, and im thinking that this set-up might be a good contender in SPL competitions. What do you think?

if you set it up right (enclosure is correct, wiring is correct and required voltage is available) you will have a good chance in there, but remember your running against people that may have an upper hand on you so dont get discouraged. It is a learning experience.

im not expecting anything but experience, im just wondering if its even worth a try at this point. I've been doing so much research into it, and the competition looks tough, but the Street A class seems a reasonable class to begin with.

They change class names and specs so much lol. It used to go by what you had in Sq. inches for subs then by amp power and now theres actual classes lol.

Go for it. You never know til you try.

I remember they went by watts, then how many square inches of woofer cone area you had. Both of which had ways of getting around.

For power, they had "cheater" amps, they were rated at like 25x2 but would put out well over that, or you could "strap" 2 or more amps together and have a shit ton of power.

The bad with the cone area is, you can have someone with say 2 15's and 5,000 watts of power going against someone with 2 15's and 1,000 watts of power.

But, it's fun, and can get very competitive.

Read articles about Alma Gates, she for the longest time had the loudest vehicle on the planet. And she's in her 70's. Its a great time

alternator ive already looked into it. I'll be gettign one that produces 170amps at 1600rpm. As for batteries, still looking, ive been intrigued by these 16 volt batteries, but i might just go for two yellow tops.

if you do 16v batt your jumping in way way over your head and most likely burn up your car. and 170 amps at 1600 huh what brand ??

The brand is Load Boss, they seem to make some pretty decent stuff. Output rated @ 80-85 amps at 800 rpm and 165-170 amps at 1600 rpm.

And as for the 16 volt, if you say its a bad idea then i wont give it any second thoughts.

It's not a bad idea, but you have to know what you are doing and have equipment rated for 16v.

thats it, i think the 1000/1 has this technology where no matter what the voltage, between 11-14.5, the output doesnt change, but im not sure if it even can handle 16v.

no it cant because of its regulated power supply ... that's why power output stays the same in that range ...
