Has anyone converted thier fixed intermittent wiper control to variable intermittent control? I have a switch with the variable knob, but can seem to figure out where I need to connect the variable control? I have read the factory service manual, but cant see where I need to tie in? Do I need to get the multi control module from a car that had variable control? Thanks in advance!!

Wondering the same thing
Unless someone knows if any of the CB7 ECUs are similar to those from something else either from Acura or later Hondas I think we are out of luck.
I'm planning to do this very thing to my Element, because although Elements and CR-Vs never come with variable intermittent wipers, that part of the the control unit is the same as the Pilot, so it's just two wires added to the harness and the correct switch.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

In modern Hondas that have the variable feature, selecting the intermittant wiper function then allows you to rotate a portion of the wiper stalk to vary the interval in which the wipers do their "one sweep". It varies the delay in the wait between sweeps. Helps with differing levels of rain or mist.
In our CB7s, the intermittant sweep is a fixed amount of time only.
Most modern Hondas have the ability to have variable intermittant wipers added, becuase it's already a supported feature of the ECU or multiplex control unit --- just add wires and a potentiometer or swap out the wiper stalk from a fancier car that has the control on it..
Even though it costs pennies to impliment, Honda reserves the feature for higher-end models.
For example, variable wipers are not available on the Civic, Element or CR-V. But they do come on the RSX and Pilot for example, which share various parts with the lesser Civic/Element/CR-V etc.
The RSX wiper stalk (maybe the Pilot too) is a "bolt in" for the CR-V and Element (probably Civic as well) and the multiplex control unit is the same in the Element & CR-V, which have pins ready to accept wires from a potentiometer to vary the wipers.
Another example of a cheap feature intentionally withheld is the steering wheel audio controls. They are missing from the Element EX and CR-V EX, however both vehicle's radios have the pin just waiting to be used for this. Bolt onto the steering wheel audio controls from a Pilot EX (for the Element) or 2nd-gen Odyssey (for the CR-V), do some wiring through the airbag spool ... yada yada ...
Unfortunately, I don't think a bit of this has an ounce of anything to do with any '90-93 Accord, unless somebody pipes up to say that the car has the capability but just needs the control as I've outlined above.
Honda wiper stalks change generationally, so they tend to stick around for a few years to allow this sort of swapping. But it's the shared capacity of the control unit that's necessary too, and unless it's shared with some sort of early-mid '90s Acura that might have come with variable wipers (I have no idea) all bets are off.
In the meantime, RainX!>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

deckeda ..
XCellent write up .. It's as simple as that ..
As we've all seen on various *chop shop* shows .. anything can be done ..ne thing ..
Its just a matter of R&D, engineiering, ..oh.. and the $$$.
Is there a way to *trick* our cb's into *thinking* it *is* a varible intermittant? Like a *dimmer* on a light?
A Hui Hou !!!

No. You'd still need a place to connect the "dimmer" to --- a separate set of terminals on the ECU. At least that's how it's done today. If you gave the ECU less of a signal via a variable stalk from a newer car or the regular stalk (that is, with a dimmer in-line) the wipers probably would not run at all.Originally posted by PakaloloHonda... The variable-ness needs to be controlled by the ECU, or one would have to be present in the stalk (which it isn't) to send pulses TO the ECU. Right now, that "pulse" is us moving our fingers on the existing stalk ...
I haven't yet digged into the Helms to make sure there isn't such a way, but given the car's age and lack of a shared ECU with a Legend or whatever (did they even have variable wipers?) I'm not holding my breath.
Maybe there was such a variable function however on JDM cars, who knows? After all, some had automatic climate control and USDM CB7s didn't.>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

yes the legands had a intermitent delay adjustment. my dad has a 91 in case you're wondering how I knowOriginally posted by deckedaI haven't yet digged into the Helms to make sure there isn't such a way, but given the car's age and lack of a shared ECU with a Legend or whatever (did they even have variable wipers?)
