You are refering to the Infinity reference component set. Yes, for the money it is a great set of speakers. I sell these all the time at work, and all of my customers are extremely satisfied with them. Definately think about adding an amp to them so you can reach their full potential.
Edit: If your looking for bass, buy a sub. Component speakers aren't meant to replicate a huge range of bass frequencies, nor are they meant to reproduce bass loudly(< Is that a word?)Honda-Tech Username: Lostcb7

well for budget i would say the MAX i am willing to spend is 150. i already have two subs in the back, so i don't want that much bass, but i want a decent amount. Also a really important thing is that they don't sound crackly when i crank them up, because i was at circuit city and when they cranked those speakers up they sounded like SH1T!! that is definietly something i am trying to avoid, even if it means spending a little extra. so with the info provided, are those infinity's gonna cut it or not?

You also have to take into consideration the fact that you get 15 year old kids who can't even drive trying to "bump" those little speakers because they don't own them and don't care if they blow. Also, the speakers were probably hooked directly up to a HU, adding to the problem. I promise you as a member of this site you can't go wrong with those Infinities. Are they the best out there...not by a long shot, but they do sound good in their own right.Originally posted by flacopower

I suggest you put 50 bucks in your pocket for gas and get you a nice pair of 6.5 coaxial Power Base Extremes. they sound surprisingly good and they last a long time. the thing is when the MB Quart factory went back to the germans, they turned around and got rid of everything to do with the "old style" MB Quarts and 17.9 million worth of surplus speaker materials such as magnets and baskets was purchased by what is now PowerBase.
the extreme is their higher end line.

You could actually score a nice set of Pioneer 6x9s for less than that. Pioneer speakers are generally a good bang for the buck. Even the sets they sell at WalMart can be a good deal.
Here's a pretty good resource for reviews and opinions:

Speakers will crackle from either being underpowered or overpowered. Considering you were at a retail store, like JDMcb7 said, most likely they were underpowered (direct from an HU) and they've been beaten by brats.
You can't wrong with Infinities either, lot of folks love them. If you can find a nice set for a good price, go for it. I have an Infinity Reference series 10" sub and it's by far the best I've had. I've had Boss, JBL and now this one, good stuff.Bart: What's your name?
