The pioneer seems to have the best overall spec's, I'd hit that one. However my Dad has a pioneer, and though it still works, there's one problem. The backlight burned out. So when even a shadow falls on it you can't see it. He basically just memorized where the buttons are. That doesn't mean it will happen to yours, after all his is at least 5 years old.
    Check this out though...

Signal to Noise ratio (should be lowhigh)
    JVC - 98db, Sony - 120db (winner), Pioneer - 94db

    Frequency Response
(You want this to have the lowest lows, and highest highs)
[Note however music equipment usually never goes higher than 20k, because human ears can't hear above 20k]
    JVC - 5hz-20khz (tied), Sony - 10hz-20khz, Pioneer - 5hz-20khz (tied)

    Power; Peak and RMS
(Don't bother reading into peak, it is just what it can do an instant. What we care about is average power, RMS.)
    JVC - 50, 19; Sony - 52, 23.2 (winner); Pioneer - 50, 22

That power difference is awfully minor.
Unless you care about XM or the extra Sony bling, I'd go for the Pioneer. They have the same warranties (1 year)
They have some weight differences (as if it really matters)
Unfortunately, the Pioneer won't play mp3's, or wma (but no one really uses wma's, some people do make mp3 cd's)
My Sony will play them, but I'll never make or play any mp3/wma cd's.

I like the Pioneer of those 3 choices.

*EDIT* ok so I corrected the info. But regardless, I have a sony and I think its crap. It works and all, but the layout is poo, and it overheats when playing cd's.

pioneer best choice. ive run pioneer for the last 4 years now and when i did have a problem with one of my CD/MP3 players it was fixed and sent back to me within the a week. Ive run all kind of brands and prefer Pioneer and Alpine but with Alpine there are to many steps to adjust simple functions.

its like nothing in the world. definition of relaxation.

When it says recondititioned does that mean it was broke and then fixed or just like returned?

means that it was broke or for some reason returned to the factory and its been rebuild.

also not necessarily broke, but if its returned, they may need to send it back to them first, if no work needs to be done, they just slap a 'reconditioned' sticker on it first, they can't make as much money of it because of that. I think it'd still be ok reconditioned.

Actually the higher the number the better.

                  From crutchfield:
                  "Signal-to-Noise Ratio
Measured in decibels (dB), this spec compares the strength of the desired signal (music) to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise."
                  more info here:
                  http://www.crutchfieldadvisor.com/S-..._glossary.html

If I had to choose between the above HU's I'd go with the JVC since it has another preout and also plays MP3s! After you've had a HU that can play MP3s you'll never want anything else
go with the JVC for sure!
