    Removable Sub Box

I looked around a little bit for a set up like I want, but nothing turned up. First off, I will be gutting most of my car (not really for the weight reduction, but mostly I just like the way it looks) and will have no rear seats. I want something that is simple and clean, but could produce good, clear bass. A 1 10" subwoofer would be ideal, with a lower wattage amp (150-300 watts). I had thought about something behind the front seats, in the floor. I would like for whatever design I use to be rather easily removable for going to the track, or drag strip. I have a few thoughts on this, but I sure could use a little advice from people with more experience in this area. Just an idea...

    Thanks

Are you mostly concerned about additional weight? A 1 cu ft box isn't too big...

I'm concerned about weight, and how much space it'll take up. My trunk will have no "floor" or carpet in it, but will have my battery, jack, and spare tire. Idk if this would be a good place to have a box, I wouldn't know where to put it. Placement is my biggest issue. For a sub I have looked into an Orion XTR 10" powered by an Orion XTR 250.2. Both are rather small and light. Also, it only requires a 1.0ft^3 box. It would cost less than $300 for both new. I could easily make a box for less than $50, but the main thing I'm worried about is where to locate it, and what type of enclosure would be best in that location.

You know what the problem is with an easily removeable sub in your car right behind the front seat? It's easily removeable by the guy who knocks out your window too

And, I won't be getting a sub now. You just made my job a lot easier. I just remembered how it felt to get all my stuff jacked. I had my radio, sub, and amp all stolen out of my car a few years ago. I think I'll stick with 2 speakers up front and 2 in the rear deck, and keeping my radio out of sight.

Yah, that'd be even worse if you have a sub box set up with a pair of quick disconnecting terminals and a box that just lifts out so they don't have to unbolt anything or whatever. Just knock a window out, walk away in 30 seconds with it.

You gotta get an alarm (adds weight) then tint the windows so they can't see in (adds weight) then add a layer of 1/2" plexiglass behind the windows so if they try to smash your window out with a baseball bat they break the outer glass, then have the bat bounce off the plexi and knock them out... Your 2-way alarm alerts you, then you go to your car, pull out a pistol, and execute the bastard. Open their wallet, find money for new glass. Simple as that.

having plexy glass behind ur rear windows is not a bad idea .. U could actually tint those and have tint in ur rear 2 side windows.. without even tinting ur glass. and you can get a larger piece.. tinted.. or even painted black. and cover the trunk entry from your back seats. And as for sub placement.. I have my 10" sub position to the right side of my trunk. The speaker box sits sideways and the sub itself is facing the upper left corner of my trunk. I use L-brackets attached to the board that covers the spare tire well(straight through the carpet). If you have it exposed, you could try to jb weld a bracket to the exposed trunk floor

That might work, it just makes it harder to remove the box.

Actually to really secure your system what you need is plexi in the front and back of the trunk, using numerous different types of nuts, bolts, and screws (especially hex and torx) securing it. Then just some slots for sound to actually escape from. Also, the plexi behind your windows can stiffen your vehicle, giving your music MOAR BASS!!!!!!!!!!!1one!

This is how I have my sub mounted. It looks a little ghetto because of the flash on the camera but really its clean and blends in quite nice, and the sub is very difficult to remove without a 10mm socket.
Being normal is probably the lamest thing you can try to be

Thats similar to how I had mounted. 4 L brackets held down my double 12 ported box on all the corners. Took about 2 or 3 minutes to get it out.

Put it in the trunk and you will just keep it out of sight and noone will know. It doesnt matter where it is, its easy to steal anything. I had a pretty elaborate set up in my car and when I sold it, I got everything unwired and organized in about 20 minutes.

All this talk of plexi glass seems a bit extreme for a $200 setup.

Just a idea - what about a bazooka tube or some knock off tube? You mentioned just a 10" and small amp - http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Bazooka-BTA8...item45f93d84f9 - simple to just put in anywhere and easy to remove.... I had one before and it sounded pretty good.

I would always install an alarm, hell I got a RF one on eBay that will tell you if someone actually opened the door or just bumped it, none the less a quick warning from the alarm will turn them away.
