    question

i just connected the a pioneer deh-1600 to an aftermarket wiring harness.. imatched up the wires, but i strip both the wire back.. wrap the bare wire around each other and taped it.. is this good?

will heat melt the tape.. is this a fire waitin to happen? i need input

my deck also doesn't have illumination, dimmer and power antenna.

does that mean my deck won't light up and also does it mean that if i have power antenna and when i turn my radio on.. the antenna won't pop up?

you must have not wired wires up correctly w/ the harness and the harness that came w/ your cd player

the tape idea is not bad but what i recomend is u go to an auto parts store or radio shack and get some electric heat shrink wrap (red or blue doesn't really matter) you can solder the wires together or wrap them really tight and shrink wrap them. and for the illumination, power antenna etc. if u have a stock radio there is a schematic on the bottom of it. if u cant figure it out let me know.

nope, i matched up the colors.. wires was labelled.. even had the cd player manual and whatnot.

i just think the pioneer deh1600 is a cheap ass deck

you can go to Lowes, and pick up some 14-18gauge butterfly crimps for like $2.00.... why didn't you use them?

Not all decks have the illumination or dimmer. Hook up your power antenna to the blue lead. Some decks have it seperate so the antenna retracts when you're playing a cd.

And yea, twisting and tape is ghetto. Get some solder and shrink tubing or some crimp on butt connectors.

the only blue wire on the deck is remote wire and it has a white strip.. i tapee it up so i can use an amp for later..

anyways i don't think anyone answered my question, is it true that using electrical tape is a fire waiting to happen, and the heat from the wire will make the tape melt and whatnot..

i guess he answered it lol
anymore input on the tape situation?

The tape will not melt. Electrical tape is usually UL registered and has specifications to withstand many things including heat. Yes twist and tape is kind of ghetto, but if you twisted well, and used some good amount of tape the connection is not going anywhere. The blue cable with white stripe is the same for both the power antenna and amp remote, it is used for both.

Crimp connectors are better than twisting, and soldering is best, but it is funny that I rad somwhere that everyone says to solder wires in cars, and yet in the aviation industry it is ok to crimp some wires.

do not use tape. it will work but with time it will unraval or pull out. butt connectors or solder is the way ta go. also if you want it to be ah clean install twist all the wires together in pairs(ie. all the speaker wires are color coded green for example twist them together cut and crimp. untill you've done all of them, then use some zipties to keep it all together)it's just alot cleaner that way. hope it goes well

the only way a fire could start (which is wont, but this is just theoretical) is if you car was turned on, both the positive and negative wires to the cd player unraveled and somehow touched, sparks flew and caught the carpet on fire....as i said, not gonna happen...but the whole twist and tape thing isnt too smart, electric tape always tends to loose its stickyness over time and unravel if you dont wrap it a million times

electrical tape for electical connections..... sounds good to me.

Hmm, so there are 3 ways to attach wires.

Crimping- You basically wind the wires together and tape it up with electrical tape. This is the crappiest.

Solder- just solder the wires together and thats it

Solder & Heat shrink wrap- Best method. Solder wires together. Then put the heat shrink wrap around it, and it shrinks itself right?

No, crimping is not winding the wires together. That's ghetto ( and what CC installers are taught to do supposedly)

Crimping uses actual connectors. Insert the stripped end and use a crimper to make a solid electrical connection.

The wiring for my motor was done with crimp connectors, soldered and heat shrunk. Best you can do.
