thinking about doing a head unit delete.

so after having my car broken into a few times, I'm thinking of doing a head unit delete but keeping stereo system functional. I do not run any subs at this time just front and rear coaxial speakers. so here are my plans, I only use my mp3 player or phone for music nowadays. get a decent 4 channel amplifier and remove the head unit. run an rca to eighth inch jack to the amplifier. get a blank out head unit install kit or fab 1 from a b s plastic. I have found a few female flush mount eighth inch jacks. this way if you look into my car I have no head unit and the speakers will look factory. just wanting anyone input on functionality or any perceived problems.

PAC LC-1 amp gain control and a RCA to 3.5mm adaptor will work too. All you'll have is a knob for volume control. That way you don't have to use the phone to turn it up or down. Kicker also makes a amp/controller for motor cycles pxi50.2, it gives you a direct hook up for a iPod/phone, has a little controller and the amp is no bigger than a 6.5in speaker

I do a lot of atv/golf carts and motor cycles that don't have room for a head unit and the way you described, is about the way we do them all

That sounds perfect because the volume control was a pretty big issue in my plan. I have a class a license and i don't like to mess with my phone much while driving. Thanks for the info.

Why not invest in an alarm before risking more stuff being stolen?

You can buy a double din delete plate direct from Honda. My local Honda parts counter stocks them for some reason.

an alarm is only use to scare someone. if they really want what's inside your car or they will get it no matter how many alarms you have. I've seen plenty of cars broken into and the alarm brainboxes sitting in the passenger seat when the robber leaves. this way they have no reason to break into the car.

May seem tacky but a long time ago when I was a teen, my friend had a red GTO, Big tires,Craiger "mags" and he somehow mounted a tissue box (with the tissues poking out) above the then very popular sony 8 track. Shut up! Yes I'm that old. Never got it stolen.

If thats the case, you live in the wrong neighborhood and i wouldnt even do anything to the car. The alarm should at least scare simple thieves away and move on to the next car. If it was me personally, I wouldnt do anything to the car. You could go with your idea and see what happens

I should have clarified this car has not been broken into yet. I live in a pretty good neighborhood now but work in a rough neighborhood. the car came with a very cheap head unit in it and sounds like junk. so instead of spending a few 100 dollars on a nice head unit just to maybe have it stolen. I figured this would be cheaper, different, convenient, and less likely to be stolen. and I've been thinking of maybe mounting gauges later on in the head unit location. if you read any of my previous post I kinda like to be different.

I've thought about a head unit delete, or using a hide a way marine set up just for the coolness of it.....that and in probably 5 years from now when CDs are no longer available, you can talk about how you did it "back in the day"

I meant cars in the past, and its a very bad feeling knowing you worked hard to get what you wanted. Just to have some lazy s.o.b. take it from you.
