    MLV coverage

So. I am on to my next project.
MLV install on the floor and doors. I already applied fatmat years ago. no flamming. Yes my car smelled for weeks.
Anyhow on to the question. How much MLV do I need in square footage.
There is a local place that sells it. They also sell on ebay.
My plan is 1 lb on the floor and 1/2lb on the doors.
My thinking is 35ish for the floor 5 foot wide by 7 foot long.
Im guessing 10ft for the doors.

Next question. I want a quieter ride. I assume this will elimate some of the road noise. ? is, is it enough to justify the work, And it will be a lot of work.
I plan to take my spl meter on the drive to work with me and get a number then do the work and get another number to see the diff.

My goal is a quiet comfortable car. Decent stereo. And some more power

So far I have most of this covered. After this next install of MLV I will take a break and plan for the h22 swap maybe f20b( but I haven't read very much on that).

anyway thanks again for all the help.
If wondering. It will be fatmat(already down) CCF 1/8, then MLV.

    Steve

Oh MLV is mass loaded vinyl if you didn't know

I wanted to do this, but I never got around to it.
But to help you out, contact Frootloops on the forum. He has done hella deadening to his cb. Hopefully he is still around.
Also are you getting the MLV from ebay member: Auburndarter, or something like that?

You might want to consider that your car will be so much heavier. What are you putting into the car sub wise? The speakers on the doors and rear deck only need lining on the doors and trunk area. I just have my front doors, and top of my trunk as the trunk is the only portion that rattles the most. I only have a 10" sub and old school amps. I got Alpines components in the doors and rear decks. If you set up your system right, plus use the right equipment, you don't need much power and anything larger than 10" sub. You could even do the 8". People with larger sub and thousands watts, are just wanting to show off the system. Our CBs got really thin metal and if you have dual 15" in the trunk and with the back seat folded up, it's going to blow the trunk to hell.
I am more into super low distortion, average volume and clean sound. I don't care too much for how much your brain shakes when the bass drops. I want to preserve my hearing when I get older.
My neighbor had people check out my system and his. He spent over $1500. His is really loud but every one who gets into his car they said they get a head ache after 10 minutes. They get into my car, they said they thought they were in a theater hall. When I told them I spent less than $400 for every, their jaws dropped. Our cars are real easy to do the sound staging.

Yes to the aurburndarter seller on ebay.

I am not into loud systems. I want to quiet my road noise and other external noise. And that is about it. I have an alpine type R 8 and it is perfect for our cars in my opinion. Kendwood components up front and infinity 6.5 in the rear. I have maybe 600. I'm not concerned with the weight unless it significantly drops my MPG.
I'm not a kid. I want decent MPG, nice sound, and quiet ride.

He is in Scottsboro that couldn't be more than 45 min from you.

            Hey Steve,
It will definitely drop your MPG. My friend told me that he used Dynamat b/c I worked at BB and he said it's a nicer control on the freeway but city driving is bad on gas. He drops about 4 MPG in the city but the freeway is not that much of a problem.
If you want a real quiet ride, you need to do the head liner too to complete. Other wise it won't be as effective as the wind on the freeway is going to blow over the windshield then onto your roof.

I was thinking. That it might not make that much differnce. Plus I have a bike rack on the roof all the time, Not for looks. So I was thinking even if I deadened the car I would still hear the wind around the bike rack.
The mlv will prob only weigh about 45lbs.
Dynamat and mlv are for two different things. Dynamat is a vibration dampener. It might filter our some noise but it's main job is dampen the panels. Mlv is a noise barrier. I'm just not convinced this will do what I want it too
Plus after amping my door speakers I don't know that I need it. They sound so much better than the head unit. At about 3/4 of the volume I was using.
But the mlv will only run my about $45 or so.
So I'm going to think about this a little more

                With just dynamat??????
Did he put in over 200lbs of it?

If you haven't done so already, you could get in contact with Don at sounddeadnershowdown for more advice and how to attack the noisier areas.
