A stock radio's sound clarity, unless a Bose or premium sound system are general shit. ESP speakers in CB7's are basically made of paper. If you were take them out 7/10 says they have no surrond what so ever. If you go totally cheap with your sound you are going to wish you hadnt. A speaker might say 374 watts peak! And you thinking damnnn, thats sweet.
Now its time to talk about peak and rms wattage.
It will hold 374 watts for 1/64 of a second. But you really need to focus on the rms values and the range of freq.hz it has. RMS is the continous power that the speaker will play without distortion for the most part. When trying to find a correct amp to go with a sub, a good rule is make sure the power is atleast half of the rms. A stock radio I am guessing may put out 25 watts max over 4 channels.
Most after market radio will put out 22rms @ 4 channels. If your speakers dont sound too bad, replace it with a nice deck. You dont need to get a Pioneer 8500mp for 500 dollars, but my suggestion would be an Alpine. They are known for the excellence in the sound industry, as well as a great clear sound. Go to a store that sells them, and just listen to different cd players. See what ones fits your needs and tastes. Things to look for: are you going to be putting in a system? If you perhaps a sub out with 5 volt preouts would be something you would like to make sure your radio has. As far as speakers go, A good name to check out is Polk Audio. The Polk DB is a great line of products and have great benefits. Such as Butyl surrond and etc. Let me know if you need anything else.

Run them off an amp your gona get something like 20 /22.5 watts rms even with a aftermarket hu and 50 peak. The amp its self in an hu is like the size of a credit card. Just get good speakers for the front and dont run anything in the back. Work on the front stage to get good SQ. Bose system are run at a difference Ohm load than you should be using for those speakers so they will all ways sound bad.
