Eclipse ESN? how does it work?

since i just had my HU hacked out of my car im in the market for a new one. Im looking into Eclipse. I know they are one of the best in quality and sound. One thing thats confusing me is their security option. The HU doesnt have a removable face (CD3434) and is using a ESN security to prevent theft. Has anyone had experience with those stereos and could explain what ESN is and how does it work and protect the HU. Thanx

I believe that the unit cannot be used until a CD that you own is put in there. So if the first CD you used was burned CD, that unit will be useless to whoever stole it.

The ESN is setup by the first user. You would pick a CD for the unit to remember. It stores the Track info and total length. Then if the unit is ever stolen once it is disconnected from its power source it needs to have that particular CD loaded for the unit to be able to fully function again. If you do not load the right CD then it will remain locked until the correct one is loaded.

PS - They dont make Eclipse's near as good as they use to

I think you had to get it registered.

if its stolen within the first year, you will get a free replacement. This was before eclipse was bought out, so it might not be in effect now. New Eclipse head units suck imo. My most recent one cost me 300, for a 500 dollar unit.

yeah i m looking to replacing my pioneer with either an alpine or an eclipse.

looking for something with 3 preamp outputs running at 4v or greater.

also looking to install an eq, but how would it be possible if i installed a 1 DIN size eq under the stereo? is there a kit which allows for 2 dins to be used?

If you buy one of Ebay, you won't get a warrenty, which i highly recomend having one.

a place in my hometown. Less people are selling eclipse now because they will not migrate to satellite radio.

honestly, you should only buy it from an authorized retailer, otherwise you're assed out- both registration wise (since that's how you end up getting the replacement h.u. if yours is stolen), and problem wise (if you lose the key/initiation cd, and need the h.u. unlocked).

if your car has the battery disconnected and re connected, you will likely need to reinstert the key/initiation cd.

absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.
