Eclipse has won numorous awards in the past. But that was BEFORE they were bought by another company. The new units just keep getting worse

i had an old kenwood that was awsome...not a high end one either but it played even the most scratched CDs.... then i baught a sony xplod cdx-f7700... the radio tuner picks up stations i didnt know existed...but the cd player portion SUCKS. get any dust on a cd and it refuses to play... worst $259 i spent.

I have always been an Alpine fan(back since the early 80's and cassettes). I have had two or three Cassette h/u's, and am on fifth(in family) Alpine CD H/U. My first was from 1994 the 7817 Receiver- had a contact problem quickly fixed by dealer. Had the unit put in a Taurus SHO and was bulletproof- it never skipped. It sat for 3 years and put in my kids cars. Its gone now- only because it couldn't handle CD-r's well.

We now have 7805, 7807, and I have a 9811 and they are great. We have had assorted Pioneer unit spinkled in the mix(came with cars as purchased used), and they always felt tinny sounding, and tough to setup(I guess once you get used to controls of one type its tough).

I've always loved my Pioneer units. Never any problems with them and they always play any CD I throw at them.

I love Eclipse too, but I didn't realize the quality was going down.

I love the 9600! That's probaly my favorite head unit. You can tune sooo much with it. Perfect for competition!

I remember back in 93 when my cousin bought a sick $700+ Eclipse deck. It was one of the decks that didn't have a built in amp. Does Eclipse even still make those?
