    Are SOLOBARICs any good?

I went to Circuit City today just to pass time at work...I heard my setup back to back against ONE Solobaric 12, and it fukking blew my subs out of the water. They might have had my subs wired wrong, etc, blah blah...but, that Solobaric was mean and vicious. Anyone have them? Are there any comparable single 12s I could get?

What kind of box was the one u listen to in?
    you want SQ or SPL?
There are subs out there that are better than the solobaric, but the solobaric is pretty hard to beat for the price sometimes.

man right now I have three(3) Rockford Fosgate T112d2 Stage 1 subs. They hit sooooo hard even my dynamat rattles!!!!!! I recommend these subs to anyone who wants nothing but pure quality in bass. I speak from years of systems and these subs are impressive along with the same line of class d amps. But as far as Kicker Solobaric's go they can hit hard and low if powered enough. I would go with 1 15" Solobaric in a ported box or 2 12" Rockford fosgate T1's

was it ported and did u hear in a car or instore in that little room. solobarics are very good cause they have more surface area than a circle speaker i had 15 l7 ported to 32hz in a 6cu ft box and it wanged off 60 watts from my bookshelf stereo in my room in car(hatchback) off 700 watts that thing was kinda unbearable they are some great machines in the correct alignment off clean power.

They were L7's...I'm pretty sure. The L5's have the blue logo, right? The L5's are crap though.

to me solobarics sound alot different than traditional round subs. if i were to get a new setup today id get JL w3's or w7's. But since my JL 12w0's (low power setup) work fine i wont change anything.

Yeah okay because you have good taste if you say theres something better out there. You can say that about any sub out there.

Alright, time for me to speak. I owned the 2003 model solobaric L7. It was 15" and i put it in a 6 cubic foot box ported at 37/38 hz. I was powering it with a crossfire vr1000d, and the thing pounded. But i think it was a little bit too muddy in the big box with a frequency as high as 38 hz.

I also had a 12" L5 in a 3 cubic foot box ported to 32 hz. That thing fuckin pounded. I dont know why it was so loud, but it was run off a directed 1100d and it sounded a lot better than my 15".

If you buy a solobaric, i would get a 12" becuase the 15's are just too big and sloppy. make sure you have an amp to power it too, because they take a lot. You should put it in a ported box and tune it in the low 30's.

he is merely focusing on the fact that many people fall victim to kicker's superior advertising...just like why n00bs ask about sony xplods...they just do because thats what they have heard the most about..

the added surface area really doesnt make that much difference...even with a doubling of surface area...given that everything else is equal, the added SPL is only 3 decibels...surface area is another example of good advertisement..
and what the heck does that last "sentence" mean...??? i'm still lost

now to answer yaw's original question...dont spend the money for the subs, nor for the amps to power them...they aren't worth it if you want a well rounded system. they have great SPL, sure, but as far as sounding "muddy" that man is spot on..i actually prefer "murky" but same difference..they werent designed with SQ in mind at all.
i just hope that no one calls me a hypocrite for running S12C SoloBarics...haha

honestly though, for the money, there are plenty of better sub setups to be had!!
