    Multi-Channel Amp Wattage?

Alright, I know that amp-wattage should be in the vicinity of, if not over, the peak speaker RMS wattage.
Suppose: Let's say I have a 250 watt multi-channel amp pushing one sub with a power handling of 25-200 watts RMS.
My question is: Do I need another amp to run a secondary sub with a power handling of 25-200 watts RMS? Or will the first 250 watt amp power any number of subs at 250 watts so long as there are enough channels.

Yeah, I'm a newbie at ICE, so if this question leaves you flabergasted, I'm serious. Hey, we were all noobs at one point, right? This is my point of newbie-ness.

    Thanks,
    eid

do you have a spesific amp in mind ...the cheep amps label their amps in total wattage the more quality ones in individual chanels ... if that sort of answers your question ....

In Need of an engine, just a basic f22a...pm me if you have one willing to part with.

Yeah, probably. I guess I'm thinking of one 150 watt RMS 10" sub with maybe a 200 watt mono amp. But that's obviously not set in stone. I'm not really looking for brain-blowing-bass; I just want to add a little range frequency.

Maybe I'll get a 4-channel amp for the satellites inside the car at the same time. BTW flame me down if I'm saying/planning/doing something wrong.

          lol nice sig JamesB14

          Thanks,

its not about mono, 2 or 4 chanel amp ... as long as the power is there and the impedance is correct it will sound good and perform correctly ...

yea i know....but i was always told and i was under the impression that mono amps were better suited towards subs

One more question. I realize this might get subjective BUT should the four interior satellites be amplified too? Even with an 80-ish rms watts head unit, it seems to me that a 150 peak rms watt sub would over power the interior speakers. I was assuming that I should run a mono amp and a 4-channel amp like I was saying before... Or should I try using a try way adapter?

I'm just wondering so any, albeit subjective, recommendations would be appreciated.

                thanks,

I have no idea what that means.

When choosing an amp you can get one that is more powerful than your speakers. But you will have to turn the gain settings down on your amp.
I am running pioneers 6x9 in my rear deck powered by an mtx amp that gives the speakers 75 watts rms and they can only handle 40 but I have my gains turned down very low and i have no problems.

And you can use a 4 channel amp to power 2 speakers and one or two subs. Providing that the amp is tri-way capable. You would have to run the 2 speakers on the front channels and bridge the 2 rear channels on the amp to power the subs.

NO Deck has 80 rms per channel. You can run the speakers off the head unit but you are not going to give the speakers full power. Most decks have 20watts rms per channel.

And if your sub is overpowering your interior speakers you can turn your gains and bass boost down.

if you want a lot of wiring problems this is a DIY, but sound is not something with a trial and error margin, you need to get an amp that does everything you need, try out lightning audio, they are owned by audiobahn and they have an amp that powers midranges tweets and sub, so thats all in one package

80 RMS per channel, you're light years ahead of our technology...wooo. Listen man it doesnt matter what kind amp you use, single, 2 channel, multichannel, whatever, as long as you set the gain right
