    sub box questions.

So, waht's the deal with all these EBAY boxes?

i can kinda already guess that they've got poor construction.

also, whats with slanted and straight boxes? is there any difference?

now, where and what kind of box should i get?

    reccomend some, please.

    i'm running 2 12's

u said u have 2 12's do have a box for them right now??? i got my sub box off of ebay, and the one thing i didn't pay attention to was the depth of the box, for my subs, so i ended up haveing to raise my subs just barely a quarter of an inch up from the box, to get my subs to go in. Now some sub boxes off ebay will be ok and some may be shit, its going to be one of those 50/50 things, if you can find the sub box on ebay and then find it in the store, then you will be able to get info on the Price, and you will be able to see if u like the style and perhaps be able to hear how they sound, but remeber in most stores, they run alot of juices to there speakers or even subs that you might be running to ur subs. now on the sub box, everyone has there picks, again its going to be one of those listen and feel type of a thing, personal i prefer enclosure, with some holes, but thats just me, i got an enclosure with 2 10;s and im happy, now some people say i should have an open up sub, again its all up to what u like. hope this helps ya some, and now onto the sub boxes types there are many types

The simplest enclosure type is an infinite baffle or free air system. In this system the woofer has the front of its cone isolated from the back of its cone by mounting the woofer to the rear deck or on a board placed across the back of the rear seat. something like this it might look like ]> plate then sub ( and this is pretty much very gettho dirt cheap too lol)

Advantages of this design include simplicity, minimal occupation of space and lower cost due to not having to have a box type enclosure.

Disadvantages of this design are a larger power requirement, difficulty (sometimes extreme) in completely isolating the two sides of the cone from each other, and slightly less accurate sound reproduction.

A sealed enclosure. Here a woofer is mounted in a completely sealed box that isolates the front and rear waves of the woofer.

Advantages of the sealed design include ease of assembly, more lenient box size requirements, excellent transient characteristics, high power handling, and a typically smaller enclosure.

Disadvantages are less efficiency (requires more amplifier power) than vented enclosures and less low bass as compared to a properly tuned vented enclosures above the port tuning frequency

NEXT (this is what im using )Vented enclosures are similar to a sealed enclosure in design except that they add a “port” that is a certain length and a certain area around. This port, usually a length of PVC pipe, is tuned to a certain frequency by variation in the two parameters of area and length. By adding this port, the rear wave of the cone motion is used to reinforce the front wave. When done properly the subwoofer system becomes more efficient than a comparable sealed enclosure above the port's tuning frequency. However, below the port tuning frequency the woofer will become unstable and "unload" causing the woofer to oscillate violently, leading to premature woofer failure when driven with excessive power.

Advantages of this design are increased efficiency and a lower frequency extension above the port tuning frequency.

Disadvantages are a more complex design, a larger enclosure as compared to a sealed design, lower power handling, and slightly less transient accuracy.

    Lasty ( expensive at times)

The most complex design of the common enclosures is a band pass system. The purpose of the band pass system is increased efficiency over a small range of frequencies. This design also helps filter out unwanted midbass and upper frequencies. There are variations on the band pass design known as orders. The simplest design is the single reflex in which a woofer in a sealed enclosure fires into a vented enclosure.

    Dual Reflex Bandpass
    Enclosure Series Tuned Dual Reflex
    Bandpass Enclosure
There are also dual reflex designs in which both enclosures are vented and series tuned designs in which the woofer and first vent fires into the second vented enclosure.

Advantages of this design are a high efficiency over a small range of frequencies and some filtering characteristics.

Disadvantages are decreased frequency response, less accurate reproduction, extreme complexity in design and assembly, larger enclosure size, greater woofer unloading and decreased power handling.

now either i have confused you if so im sorry but im adding pics too and everyone LOVESSS PICS!!!

with the box being slanted the sound waves inside the box hit the walls at angles and keep going around, therefore creating more disturbance which in turn "should" create louder sound. the "perfect" enclosure for a sub would be something with no 90* angles.

next thing, wut type of subs are they? that also can help us to better answer your question as to wut a good box for you would be. me personally im running an infinity subwoofer in a vented box. creates a lot of sound from a single sub, its actually louded the the subs i used to have. also if you wanna build your own box, get the manufactures recommended specs of their website.

werd...good explanation, i'd be proud to call that my own..
my old box was parallel, so i built my new box seen here so that i could have a box that was slanted...i haven't yet put that beast in my trunk yet, as it still leaks, and i dont want to ruin that bad-boy and all the hours i put into it with a little stray water...so it must wait..

liquid nail, solves all your problems. unfortunately i blew my sub last nite which sucks. gotta send it back and get a new one and turnmy gains down. it looked really funny to have smoke rolling out from behind my back seat and out of the vent.

i thought you meant the box was leaking, read it wrong.
